Hi Everyone:

I am a long-time lurker and occassional poster to this BB. I have a Thanksgiving Day dilemma and hope you all could help me!

I am currently living in Manhattan for 3 months, and will be spending Thanksgiving here in the city with my DH and 20 month DD. Of course, we are going to the parade, and doing all that stuff, but I always make t-day dinner (usually for all the in-laws so over 25 people). This year, we made the executive decision to spend the holiday in NYC much to the disappoint of our family, but that's another story. :o

If it were just DH and I, we would just go out to dinner, but what to do with having DD here as well? I want to make a somewhat traditional dinner, but have VERY limited stuff in my corporate apartment. Any suggestions from the New Yorkers on the board of where to go, what to buy, etc...????? I know the city pretty well, and am not afraid to go everywhere by myself, but with the DD, I fear it will be a challenge.

Thanks for all your help!

I'm not a New Yorker, but if you're looking for a fast, simple meal that combines all the traditional flavors, I thought Rachel Ray's "Thanksgiving in 60" had some great ideas. Here's a link (http://www.foodnetwork.com/food/show_sp/episode/0,1976,FOOD_9994_35591,00.html) to the show information with recipes.

been there, done that (20 years ago. keep it simple. it's just you & DH eating, DD will be having little tastes. you ought to be able to purchase an entire meal somewhere really good up in manhattan-- i know they sell them down here in the boonies -- or at least, some of the components, since your apt. kitchen isn't set up for Cooking. i'd go with basics: turkey breast, stuffing, one type of potatoes, grean beans (or other green, as you wish). certainly you can pick up a pie and if you don't mind cranberry in a can...although all it takes is a saucepan, a bag of berries, and a bunch of sugar to make a simple sauce. think about what the post important aspects of the meal are for you both and proceed accordingly. just about eveything but the turkey can be made a day or two ahead, if that helps.

I don't live in NYC, but visit often. With a small child and limited cooking facilities/gadgets, I'd order in. How about Fairway at 74th and Broadway? Here's a link to their T-giving stuff, but you have to order TODAY (Monday). Look at the one about the "menu" for the a la carte offerings. You don't need the meal for 6.

Good luck! (And the food from Fairway is wonderful, at least in my experience).

Why not go out with your daughter in tow? You can go traditional or completely untraditional as you choose, she won't really know the difference! I'm sure most mid-range restaurants will be equipped to handle children. I don't think there's anything wrong with taking small ones out to restaurants as long as you have them under control so as not to disturb the other diners. How else are they going to learn how to behave in public if you don't take them out in public? Start 'em young, teach 'em manners, and teach 'em how to eat adventurously.

I think the question needs to be asked, what do you really want to do, cook something in the apartment, order in (those are usually too big for what's essentially two of you) or go out? What part of town is the apartment in?

PS. Any decent supermarket here is going to be equipped with everything you'd need.
