i have had some saffron for a while now - maybe close to a year - and i am wondering if there is any way to tell if it still has the full flavor it normally does. maybe just by smelling it?
i am making paella tomorrow - so it is a key ingredient - i wouldn't want to use it and not get the full taste.
thanks!

ok - i know i did this backwards, but after i posted this, i remembered a saffron thread from last week - so i did a search and found where someone said that saffron lasts up to 2 years!
from those of you who might have more experience with this spice, do you think it becomes less flavorful after a while? i would assume, like other dried spices, it would lose some flavor - but i might be wrong...
what do y'all think?

If you keep saffron in an air tight container it should last in definitely without losing any flavor http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif
