OK...I'm stupid....but I can'tfind the plum tomatoes called for in my next recipe...So can anyone tell me or email me and tell me the difference between plum tomatoes and regular? Will it make a difference if I use the regular whole tomatoes, since I can't find the plum?
Thanks and God bless!

Plum tomatoes are better for cooking becasue of their meaty and flavorful flesh. They are also known as Romas. You can probably use regular in your recipe you may just have to simmer longer or adjust the other liquids and maybe add some tomato paste to add to the flavor of regular tomatoes.

Plum tomatoes are also called Italian or Roma tomatoes. They are usually smaller than regular tomatoes and have an oval shape. They don't really taste differently than the regular tomatoes, but they have more flesh and less liquid. If you substitute regular tomatoes, you might want to either deseed them a bit or add less other liquid.

Do you need the canned or fresh variety? In most recipes you can substite canned for fresh. Funny thing is that of all the tomatoes out there, plum are ALWAYS available, no matter where I have lived.

You would think! But I went to three local grocery stores, and none of the three carried them....of course I live in a rural area...and in the "Meat and Potatoes" South!
I mentioned it to the three managers, we will see what happens...I was looking in the canned vegetables aisle.
Thanks, though! For ALL of your replies!
