Coloring Coconut

Is there a trick for coloring coconut for cakes or cupcakes, is it just the coconut and food color or another ingredient? Thanks.

I normally put the coconut and a few drops of the food coloring in a ziplock bag or other container and shake until all the coconut is covered.

For colored coconut, combine a few drops of food coloring with 3 tablespoons water in a medium bowl. Stir in coconut; mix until evenly colored. Spread on an ungreased baking sheet; bake just until dry, about 12 minutes, being careful not to brown. Let coconut cool; transfer to a small bowl. (This was for 2 cups of coconut.)
