I wanted to let everyone know. It is officially spring. I would not know it by living down in Miami. I know for all of you gardeners that is the time for you. Enjoy the fresh air and the birds. Sometimes I wish I could be up north to appreciate things like spring, or the other seasons. I am tired of seeing palm tress, I would rather see the leaves change. one day

Thanks, Matt!

Believe me, I'm relishing this time of year -- it's by far my favorite season, and the daffodils, Bradford pears, tulip trees and azaleas just have this way of making you happy !

Don't worry; you have plenty of time to see the seasons change -- someday you may be missing those palm trees! (Although I very much can relate to your wanting to experience living in other parts of the country http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif )

Have a great day!

Emily

Spring? Are you sure? It's currently snowing here in NJ. Everything is white. Very odd.

Hiya Matt,

Same to you!!! I know us northerners sometimes get a little uptight about the change of the weather (at least I know I do, but you're right - we do get to see the beautiful leaves change.

Yes, it snowed here too this weekend. But the crocuses are up and in full bloom, and my daffodils and mini-irises are half out of the ground.

Yesterday my fruit bushes were full of cedar wax wings. What a beautiful sight!!!

Happy Spring everyone!!!

Well, Matt, if it's any solace, it was 15º here in IN yesterday (not much warmer today) with lots of wind and some snow showers!

Before all this happened, however, we did get to enjoy a few warm days - warm enough to coax my crocuses to emerge! And the tips of the tulips are poking their way through as well.

So I know it's coming, it just doesn't feel like it!!! I suppose all this cold really does make you appreciate all that spring brings. And I do appreciate the change in seasons, but for me, personally, I'd prefer if winter lasted no more than 2 months!

This is my favortie time of year. Just seeing everything come to life again puts me in a happy mood. I lived in Florida for a few years and missed the change of seasons something awful. Before, I hated winter and cold weather but now I don't mind any of it because I now spring will be here soon. The sun is shining today and the daffodils are blooming and all is right in my world!
And I almost forgot, I have a new oven! I'm ready to bake!

Happy spring to all!

Last night I went to let the cats out. Opened the door to find about 3 inches of snow on the porch. Cats ran and hid. Had to crawl around under the computer , drag them out and almost throw them out the door. I got nasty looks from both. We tied the record low last night here in New Castle, PA ---14---Ugh!!!One bright spot though, saw a VERY fat Robin outside my kitchen window yesterday. Dare I hope?--Lisa

Yesterday I saw my first robin of the season and today it's snowing so hard I can barely see the road. It's taking it awhile to stick to much more than the trees and bushes but it's holding it's own now. We're expecting 3-6 inches before this is over. At this rate, maybe by mid-June here in Connecticut the snow might be all gone. I wish it were spring.

Hello from Mass. Yes, it's snowing. Winter doesn't want to let go this year! My husband is enjoying x-country skiing, I'm ready for a change of pace!

Palm trees....sunshine.....sounds so wonderful...got to dream about something!

Spring in Oregon has been unusually warm and dry this year, and I am definitely not complaining! The days are getting longer, my daffodils and hyacinths are in bloom (with tulips on the way), and I am hopeful that more warm weather is just around the corner! I am crossing my fingers that Mother Nature will not try to make up for the shortage of rain this winter by dumping it all on us in the next 6 months!

I'm so ready for spring. Yes, we have snow in CT. today as well. Sandy I'm so envious of all those Cedar Waxwings you enjoyed. The last time I saw a whole bunch together was at my Mom's in Cape Cod!

I'm so ready for Spring too! I also woke up to snow this morning and my son asking if we could go sledding after school.
This weekend is suppose to be nice. In the 60's. Can't wait! Love the change of seasons!
How does your cooking change with the seasons? We actually used the grill this week!

Yep...Spring has sprung here in the central coast of California. Officially got my first sunburn(oops!)yesterday while at a BBQ. Daffodils are done for the year, but the Asparagus is just starting to take off...

I love this time of year. It is green, green, green here; and that only lasts for a while here in the "golden hills" of CA.

Happy Spring!

Hi Matt and everyone,

When I saw this thread last week it was snowing here - grrr... But I'm happy to report that this week it seems spring has finally reached the Northeast! The sunshine really picks up your mood, doesn't it? http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/cool.gif

The change of seasons definitely affects my cooking. It was so nice here yesterday that I ditched my original dinner plans in favor of a celebratory spring meal: CL's Mustard-Maple Grilled Salmon with roasted asparagus and new potatoes.

Happy spring!

Kathryn - I was in your same situation, but am also happy to report that the snow is gone - hopefully for good now!!! - and spring is everywhere. I was just out cleaning out my barrels and planters (that I never got to in the fall http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/redface.gif ) and can't wait to plant! I'm going to have to go buy some pansies and violas to tide myself over until the official planting season!

We're in Lancaster county PA and the kids are wearing shorts right now (not my idea). Having lived in Canada most of my life, and getting the pleasure of living in the south for almost 2 years in the past (not long enough http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/frown.gif, I will tell you that I would never miss the change of seasons. I prefer HOT over cold any day

Matt--I just came back from Sanibel Island this past Sunday and it was absolutely beautiful down there.

Now I'm back in West by God Virginia and it's been gorgeous here as well...I can't wait to see green on the mountains. In the spring the mountains look like broccoli and in the fall, they look like Fruity Pebbles...I must say that the changing seasons are a wonderful thing.

Off topic...is anyone out there from Wilmington, NC? It's on our possible "to move to" list.

Happy Spring to all! Speaking of Spring, what's your favorite flower. I think my favorites are Snap Dragons and Zinnias. I think they're my favorite because I can remember gardening with my Grandma and she would always plant those flowers. What a nice memory! I miss her. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/frown.gif

Well, I'm sitting here with the window open, loving our gorgeous weather.....and sneezing my head off! Aaahhh, allergies. Gotta love them. Nevertheless, I am so excited our weather is finally nice.

hka--I have to say my favorite flowers are probably tulips. They look so pretty when they pop up early in the season, and it's a sure sign spring is here!

Happy Spring to you Matt and everyone! Even though it has been un-usually warm this winter, we still have snow on the ground but it's definitely coming, yippee!
I am SO excited about getting in the garden soon, tending to my perennials outside and getting the many flats of seedlings crowding my kitchen planted.. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif Zinnia

What a great post. Spring is certainly in the air and I love it.

Hka-This week I tried my hand at planting my first annual garden and one of the flowers I planted were snapdragons. I agree with you-they are beautiful.

Happy Spring to everyone and a Happy Spring Break to all my fellow BB teachers!!!

Oh my gosh, I'm an ardent lover of flowers -- I think my favorites must be daffodils, but I also love hydrangeas, azaleas, tulips; oh, who am I kidding, I love them all! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

Hi Matt and everyone! Boy you guys are active in the morning with this board. I enjoy this positive and friendly energy, it's better than coffee. Matt, I'm just up the road from you in Fort Lauderdale so I know what you mean about the weather, although it's gorgeous here this morning. But it'll be hot soon and stay that way until November.

Anyway, Happy Spring everybody!! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

Happy Spring

http://home.att.net/~scorh/Flower1a7.gif

What a beautiful morning it is here today. Spring is here to stay....I hope! Some traces of snow but not much. I just came in from raking leaves out of my flower beds and sweeping all that sand from the snow storms from sidewalk and driveway. There must have been a ton of sand! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

My favorite flowers are daffodils, tulips and foregetmeknots is the Spring. Roses, iris and hydrangeas in the Summer. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

Hope everyone's day is a sunny one! This graphic is from http://home.att.net/~scorh/
