The other post was getting long, and left the subject of bread, so I'd thought I'd start over again. I thought that only 100% whole wheat bread really counted a "whole grain". Lots of those 12 grain or sprouted wheat breads in the store don't have 100% whole wheat as the first ingredient. So, what should I be looking for? I see lots of "wheat" bagels or English mufffins but I think they just add food coloring to look brown.

If it says "whole wheat flour" or "stone-ground whole wheat flour" and DOESN'T list any other flour, such as "wheat flour", it should be a whole grain. Make sure any other grains included, such as rye or kamut or spelt, are also whole grains. Stone ground is considered best because heat isn't used in the milling process.

To me, whole grain is also 100% whole wheat. Most of the 7, 10 or 12 grain breads are based on white flour, unfortunately. What I do when choosing bread, is look at the fiber content. The one with more fiber is the one I buy. I don't eat much bread, so if I have 2 slices a day, maximum, I am more concerned about the fiber than the white flour.
