I have subscribed to one additional magazine ($21.95) and ordered 2 books (both Sweet Potato Queen's) I already was ordering from Penzeys. Oh, King Arthur.... that was around $65.00. I'll edit this as I remember things!
Thanks for reminding me about Tavolo's (I think!). It's time to do my weekly check of clearance items.

You all convinced me to replace the non-functioning toaster with a toaster oven. I thought of getting a Kitchen Aid toaster for $99. Instead, the toaster oven was on sale for $55. You've saved me $45. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif
Other than that, my kitchen is extremely well stocked with appliances and gadgets, foods and spices, so there is nothing that I probably didn't already have that has been highly recommended.

I knew this question was coming, and I dreaded it.....but, here goes......
Breadman Bread Machine: $110
Tavolo clearance items (including fondue kit): $75
Penzeys Spices (two orders): $100
Cooking Light Annual: $24
Henckels Knife Set: $375
Granted, I probably would have acquired these things without the help of this bb; maybe it was just a little helper.... http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif
I keep thinking of that Mastercard commercial, where I would end this by saying....
"Friendships and knowledge gained - priceless"
Oh boy, I'm really going to dread seeing my total.
Foodsaver: $125 or so
Cookbooks: Probably around $70
Penzey's: At least $60
Tavolos: Around $300
Fondue Pot: $35
(Also got a subscription to Cooks Illustrated as a gift)
I have to say, though, that this was ALL money well spent. I don't regret any of it. I'm a confirmed cooking junkie now.

I've bought a couple of recommended cookbooks (in addition to several unrecommended ones http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/wink.gif ), but you guys are priceless, so I think it all evens out. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

Given my propensity to buy kitchen stuff, I would likely have spent lots anyway. I like to think that my friends here just gave me a little thoughtful direction...
Ain't rationalization grand?!?

What are Penzey's spices?
I'm intrigued!

Let's see . . .
FoodSaver (asked for as a Christmas present)
a Moosewood restaurant cookbook
Tons of stuff at Trader Joe's
Haven't yet gotten, but I want an immersion blender . ..
Recently received a Penzey's catalog -- $$$ to come!
I know there's more, but that's all I can think of right now.

Hmmm...let's see...
I've asked for an immersion blender for my birthday.
I've been turned onto Trader Joe's so much so that I jumped up and down when I realized one was locating in my town.
The CL Annual Cookbook, but am also requesting the Enchanted Broccoli Forest and Vegetarian Cooking for Everyone for upcoming b-day.
Penzey's Spices
Some things from the King Arthur's Flour baking catalog.
I am still coveting but not quite ready to purchase due to space requirements: a Foodsaver and a big ole Kitchen Aid Mixer.
I think I actually got off pretty easily here. I agree with all those who said "advice and conversation, priceless" The difference in my cooking from before I discovered this BB to now is unbelievable!!! I am sooo much improved! Thanks guys! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif

Ugh...
KitchenAid stand mixer $250 birthday present from my husband
Trader Joes $80 (in one trip)
More cookbooks than I can imagine
Two cooking classes one free!, the other $120
One "better" knife $40
Soon, I'll buy a Foodsaver $150 & a Caphalon pan $100.
But, I think I'm saving $$$, because otherwise we'd be eating out even more than we already do! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/wink.gif
Don't let my husband see this!!

I didn't really want to think about it, but thanks to Browneye, I'm having to... http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/tongue.gif
I've started collecting more of the CL Annual books (auctions and garage sales) from 1990 on up, since I didn't start collecting Annuals till 1999. That's come to only about $60 so far, since I actually picked up the 1994 Annual last night for $3 plus shipping! Someone got me interested in Trader Joes, and I spent $60 on my trip there. I now need to go back though. Penzey's set me back about $70, and now that I'm getting my meat grinder I know I'm gonna be ordering more, since I didn't order Sausage Spices, and who can order from Penzey's and only order one or two items? I'm almost out of Madagascar Vanilla Beans anyway, and that could result in a crisis situation! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/eek.gif
I've resisted the Foodsaver so far, and I haven't committed to a Toaster Oven (my DH thinks that toaster works just fine...)and my limited counterspace won't let me have a KitchenAid mixer http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/mad.gif so I'm currently on hold with appliances...unless anyone else out there has some good ideas!?
I know I'm gonna regret asking this, but do I have to go to a Pampered Chef party or 'know' a rep to look at a catalog or buy their stuff? Is there a website with online ordering? I may be eating my words later! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif

I've been here since February, I think.
$20 at Tavolo
$6 two magazines: Cook's Illustrated and Gusto!
$4 monthly fee at Cook's Illustrated
$24 Moosewood cookbook (will probably buy another this week, I'm addicted!)
Phew! That's not bad. (However these are the only things of the many that I have bought that I can directly attribute to recommendations made here.) But it will go way up before the year is out. I will soon subscribe to Cook's Illustrated ($20) and get a spice grinder ($20) and a toaster oven ($100).
But let's be honest. I don't need much encouragement to buy household items!

Better yet, have your own PC party. I had one in January and got lots of stuff free, 2 items at 1/2 price, and other things at 25% off. Also, for hosting a party, I now have 10% off future purchases for one year!! I'm new in town, so I could only invite all the women I knew in the neighborhood.
PC does have a website, but not for online orders (the last time I looked anyway). If you need to get in touch with a consultant, the website will direct you to one (I think you e-mail them, not sure though). I booked from a party I attended last fall. It was fun, and really no work for me.

About Pampered Chef...
Ok, but here's the rub. I don't have any friends (well maybe one) who would want to buy anything. Do i just "pretend" that they want to and throw the party anyway? Or will someone come just to show ME some items? Hey, it's a guaranteed sale -- I want that measuring cup thingee that you can 'push' the food out of. And I'd be a soft touch on a few more gadgets, I'm sure...

We should go to "each others" parties. I was thinking the same thing as you, but would they know................

The reps will sell you things without hosting or going to a party. The rep I hosted from told me that if I ever wanted anything and there was no party in sight, then just to call her. It's worth a try. Go the the website and find out more. They have their products on line so you can see what they have.

I'm sure I'm forgetting something....but here goes..
FoodSaver $129
Upright Freezer $300??? I forget...
2 CL annual - about $40
I did get a stick blender for my birthday and plan to put the W-S fondue pot that several members recommended on my list for this year.
Worth every penny!

This topic is so funny! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif
Penzey's $60
Tavolo $60
Buying up old CL Annuals - about $70-80 (this wasn't really connected to the BB though)
Books - from the reading list posts probably close to $250
And soon will come the lovely foodsaver and who knows what else!
But the best thing about the information on this lovely bulletin board is that all of the above was actually worth every cent! You can't often say that - thanks BB people!! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif
Complete CL Cookbook $17 (on sale here)
Mastercook upgrade (Christmas present that came with another yr of CL)
Supper Club (2 sets of fondue forks, a cookbook, food, wine and more wine), well worth it.
I learned about the Spice House here, but since I'd already been a Penzey's customer, I count that as an option, not a cost.
I also got a crockpot but returned it when I read that you were suppposed to double all the recipes for the 6 qt. I saw a 4-1/2 qt one at Sam's today, so that will probably be added to the list before long. And I've been thinking about renewing my cookbook club membership to buy some cookbooks.

Anyone can go onto the website and look at our products. There is also an area where you can request for a consultant to get in touch with you. This will be directed to Home Office who will contact a Director in your area to call you personally. If anyone has questions about PC, you've got your own personal consultant http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/wink.gif on this BB. I'm not going to try and sell you anything unless you want it; the advice is FREE! You can e-mail me privately at any time.
I feel like I've gotten off easy. I haven't spent any money since I started on this BB! I've gotten a lot of great recipes, though!

The countless recipes and tips really are priceless!
This board has introduced me to Penzey's and I've spent about $60 there so far. I knew about Trader Joe's, but this board has inspired me to do more of my shopping there, so I'll say at least $100. I've also switched from Parmesan in the green can to the more expensive real stuff, and I can't quantify how much that has cost - however, the benefit is well worth it! I asked for an immersion blender for Christmas, so this board has cost my parents however much that cost them http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif! Overall, not bad. There are several things I still covet, but this board really is priceless!

I have to agree with Valerie- This board cost my mom some money, too! She bought me:
Cuisinart ice cream maker
Cool Daddy Fryer
mini muffin tin
those little dessert cups for creme brulee
I bought myself:
Penzy's spices (ordered a few times)
Tavolo clearance items (just came yesterday $65- what am I going to do with my fondue pot?!?!)
CL Complete Cookbook
Cherry pitter (somewhere around $12)
The recipes are great, but then there's the countless ingredients that I must buy! Still, I would not trade it for anything since these items only enhance my enjoyment in the kitchen!
Heidibowman- save yourself!!! Dont' look at penzy's website!!!! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/wink.gif but if you really want to, they are online!

Jewel- aren't you in the Seattle area or not?
I have the name of a Pampered Chef consultant in Seattle who will not insist that you have a party, she just adds on your order to the next order she submits and then gets it to you that way. If you want, I can email you her numbers.

heidibowman: www.penzeys.com. (http://www.penzeys.com.) I heard about them from a friend who is a chef. Their products are cheaper than grocery store spices and much more fresh, IMHO. If you do a search for "penzeys" on this BB you'll find all kinds of good recommendations. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

Gosh, I've gotten off easy! I can't think of a single thing. Of course there's no more room in my drawers for another gadget...counters for another appliance ... shelves for another cookbook...
