I LOVE Rudolph! Thanks for the reminder!
I'm really looking forward to the Charlie Brown Christmas special, though, do you know when that one's on?

Thanks. I never know when things are on. Do you know what time? Also, has anyone seen when that one with the mice is on - Twas the Night Before Christmas? It's my favorite!

I watched Rudolph with DS last night. It was the first time I have seen it since I was a kid. DS loved it (although I think he had nightmares about the monster last night), but I hadn't realized that the story really makes no sense!! I am planning on watching Frosty on Friday night - I hope that story ages better than Rudolph.

Well, we had looked forward to watching Rudolph all week. DH made it home early, we bought popcorn, and settled down to watch it. Unfortunately, I forgot about the abominable snowman scene. Emma was terrified. She put her hands over her ears, closed her eyes and insisted we change the channel. Maybe next year .
Now I remember being very scared of that scene too.

My SO loves those stop-motion christmas specials (like Rudolf)... but I find them creepy....
Give me (and I'm sure I'll receive) 24 hours of "A Christmas Story"

We have all the videos. Rudolph is on whenever we want him to be on!
We watched part of the Grinch on tv last week. The kids just watched, not saying much.
A few days later, DD says to me "I don't want that green guy to take my doggie." I put it all together and had a good laugh thinking of our 12 pound bichon wearing huge antlers and pulling a sled.

Alysha, thanks for posting the schedule.
Anne and Anna, we watched it for the first time with Jared last night, too. Like Emma, he hid his eyes during all the "snow monster" scenes. I asked if he wanted us to turn it off but he said no. I was worried that he would have nightmares, despite DH and I explaining that it was pretend, and he wasn't a "bad guy" afterall. However as I was putting him in bed he said "I'm not afraid of the snow monster. He's just a silly guy." Phew.

I have a date to watch Rudolph on Saturday with my niece (I have a video). I still love all of those xmas shows. I would have watched it last night but thought I'd be more grown up and watch LOST. ;)

We don't have any of the new Disney ones, but I've rented them.

Emma's been talking about the snow monster all day today . I'm mad at myself for forgetting about the monster part because it's definitely the type of thing she doesn't like.
Another thing that surprised me last night was all the guns in the show. That Yukon guy sported a big old gun and then there was that water gun that actually splatted somebody on the island of lost toys. I'm surprised that in this day and age, they didn't somehow edit out the guns -- not that I'd want them to (hey, Yukon guys carry guns), but it surprised me to see them.
Boy, Comet sure was a bad coach to all the reindeer kids -- encouraging the reindeer to make fun of Rudolph and then actually leading the rally to exclude Rudolph from the reindeer games. Man.
Frosty the Snowman is next in line. Hopefully, there are no monsters in that one.

When my kids were younger, we owned all the videos for those old shows. I had LOVED them as a child and figured my kids would too. But, I guess having the video (and constant access) kind of took the magic away from it all. Remember when you could only watch that show one time per year. Oh, I got so excited about it. Well, my kids were just like so lame about it. Finally they didn't watch it anymore and we gave the videos away. My 9 year old son decided to watch it last night after not having seen it for 3-4 years. Oh, he loved it. He said "I really just love this movie." I just smiled. You know, some times technology just ruins things.

Yeah. DH joked that I should have required the students in my Human Diversity class to watch it for class discussion. :D I guess Toy, Elf, and Reindeer diversity could be applicable.
Did you love where Donner wouldn't let Ms. Donner help look for Rudolph saying something along the lines that it was "Man's work"?

I'd forgotten all about Davey and Goliath. That stupid show sucked me in so many times as a kid. I would *think* it was going to be a good show, and then I would watch it for a few minutes before realizing that it sucked.

Thanks, Alysha - that is it! I think that ABC Family channel is the only one that shows it anymore. But, shoot, I'll be in New York on Saturday!:( I'm also not sure we get that channel here. I'll have to find out and maybe figure out the timer on my VCR.

That's what I was thinking when Susan said she had the videos. If I had them I know I wouldn't watch them but having it only come on once a year is an EVENT. I was minding my grandson today and they'd TiVo'd it so I turned it on and about 5 minutes into it got: "Can we watch Caillou?" Ok, maybe next year Rudolph will be a bigger hit. We're not really gettin' the whole Christmas business yet.

If I want to see them, I would have to get most of them on dvd. I don't get most of the channels that they're showing on.
I'm definitely going to be breaking the Grinch out soon!

"This is man's work" is our favorite line from the show. Whenever there is a manly chore that needs done it's how we refer to it :D

Although we have the video's, we only would watch them in December. I mean, pulling them out to watch in July just seems wrong. :)

Oh, we only watch the videos around Christmas. They're too corny to watch any other time. I actually laugh at them when we watch because parts of them are too funny.
The kids weren't interested at all last year, but they are interested this year. We only watched Santa Claus is Coming to Town so far. I like The Year Without A Santa Claus becuase of the old Heat Miser song. We did that as a class play in 8th grade. It was hysterical.
