DH and I are hiking/snowshoeing with full packs to a fire lookout tomorrow. The hike involves a 3000-foot elevation gain in just over 4 miles, so it's gonna be a killer! I was planning on making CL's curried prawns from March '01 for dinner tonight, but I think we'll need something more substantial to fuel our assault on Mt. Hood. Any suggestions? Given the nature of the excursion, suggestions do not have to be light. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/wink.gif

I would have a side of pasta for sure!

Make that whole wheat pasta and you'll be good to go! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif (Okay, I'm beating a dead horse now, huh?)

By the way, what's the full title of the recipe? I didn't see Curried Prawns...are you talking about the one with apples and raisins?

Are you looking for portable foods or recipes to make during along the way? When we hike, we're usually stocked with Clif Bars (and plenty of water to unstick them from your ribs), bagels, peanut butter, cheese and crackers, etc. Not sure if that's what you're looking for, but thought I'd throw in my 2 cents!

emilycat--I was at work and couldn't remember the exact name, just the primary ingredients. It's actually called the Indian Shrimp Stir-Fry. The one with apples and raisins sounds intriguing, though. I think if I pump up the amount of basmati we eat, that'll help us out.

foodgirl--for future reference, is there a ratio of proteins to carbs I should be shooting for prior to major events? I tend to run out of steam if I carbo load without any proteins for energy when the carbs peter out.
