Thinking about buying this gadget but was hoping for a review first. Anyone?

It's on my list also!

Plus the bread basket...bowls...more spatulas...sponge holder...refills for my soaps...and I HAVE to try the marshmallows:D

Hopefully someone will post a review before my order goes in...

I can't imagine why you would want to spend time and devote space for something that cubes onions when all you need is one good knife which can be used for lots of other stuff.

I have a Santoku and it takes me about 30 seconds to dice an onion using the method where you half it vertically, cut into layers while still attached to the root and then slice down creating the cubes.

If I have hordes of onions to chop which usually goes along along with hordes of other veggies, I use a food processor.

Take this for what it's worth though because I believe that less is more -- fewer high quality things that multi-purpose and I think very carefully before bringing something into my home that will probably result in clutter before I get rid of it.

blazedog,

Ya gotta be a "gadget person" to understand:D (although the hollow knife is on my wishlist also ;-})

Gabby,

Hope I didn't sound unnecessarily grinchy as I am a reformed sinner:D What I meant to convey was that a good knife is probably more functional and easier to use for prep than a separate gizmo that you have to store, find and clean in addition to your other necessary prep tools.

I LOVE gadgets but have learned that it's better to determine whether the new acquisition will really fill an irreplaceable need or merely make my life ultimately more difficult by taking up space or crowding out other things I actually use.

Objects (or gadgets) purchased recently which I can't imagine living with -- my second TIVO, my iPOD, my Braun immersion stick blender, my Santoku (not sure if this is a gadget technically), Cuisinart Grind n Brew coffeemaker, Silpat counter sized mat for rolling; OXO silicone rolling pin:D

blazedog,

Of course not, not grinchy at all...how long did it take you to "reform"? I'm working on it, but have not been too successful yet:D

Gabby,

In all seriousness, it took a confluence of circumstances -- a job layoff several years ago from a job that left me no time for anything during which period my place had descended into C.H.A.O.S. (as defined by flylady); the discovery of flylady, cleaning out my parent's condo after my mother's death and realizing the insanity of the learned and possibly genetic packrat tendencies I had -- my mother had a very neat and clean home but ohmygod -- the stuff that was crammed away and this was AFTER moving from their lifelong home into a retirement community:D

I've learned that it's easier to not acquire stuff than have to deal with the difficulty of getting rid of it when it becomes useless -- I still have too much stuff -- way too much stuff -- and have to fight my packrat tendences constantly.

blazedog,

So what you're saying is if we plan on moving to Australia in the future, I probably should work on cutting down on buying gadgets:D

I hope it works because I have ordered one. I hate to chop onions and even using your method, blazedog, I have never chopped one in 30 seconds. Another reason I ordered it, is that my daughter has a recipe for corn salad that calls for onions and avocados and she likes them chopped exactly right. My alligator should be here this week and I will report back before I put it in the drawer with the avocado slicer, etc!
