You guys always have such good ideas that I thought I'd pass this one onto you, since I'm having a hard time with it!

Against my advice (I told her it would be hard!!) my mom is doing a "chef's party" for my brother's birthday this weekend. (He is just about to start the course to get his chef's papers, and she's buying him a good chef's knife as a birthday gift). She has bought paper chef hats at a party store, and will do a centerpiece with flowers and assorted kitchen stuff (wooden spoons, spatulas etc) in a pot. However, she can't come up with other ideas for favours, decorating etc. Does anyone have any other brilliant ideas for this kind of party? The hardest part is that most people attending aren't huge cooks, so although she could give out little kitchen gadgets as favours, they might not be appreciated much. She has already made the cake - my brother requested an ice cream cake, so it won't be very "decoratable".

Any ideas from you smart people??

My mind is a blank right now, but I'll help move this up. Good luck!

How about splits of champange? and a small box of good chocolates?
Or something that might be useful for outdoor entertaining like outdoor candles or a great bottle of salsa and blue chips?

Since not everyone is into cooking, you could break them into the theme with a little game...We did this at a CL Dinner Club I hosted....

Find the most exotic looking kitchen gadgets you can find..ex: Strawberry huller, pickle poke, bag sealers, icing couplers, baked potato sticks, etc....number them and have everyone write down their guesses for the name of the item and what they think the items are used for... after everyone has done this, you can read off answers and see what everyone came up with and who got the most right...

If you want to give out favors, how about the tiny chinese to go boxes filled with candy?

Anyway, if I think of something else, I'll post again...let us know what you end up doing, it is a great theme! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif

Jen, I think it would be cute if along with balloons and streamers you added some kitchen gadgets also. For example, a cluster of balloons with a whisk and some wooden spoons or create a mobile with some interesting kitchen things. Instead of serving chips in a bowl use a saute pan. Just explore the kitchen and grab whatever looks fun and interesting. I think the guests will have a great time trying to identify what they come across. Good luck and have fun.
