Several tips I've picked up from a book are:
Add 3 to 4 slices of fresh lemon to a bowl with water, cook in microwave on high about 30 seconds to 60 seconds.

Another trick for strong odors is using vanilla. Put vanilla extract in a bowl (about 3 TBSP.) and microwave at least 30 seconds. Leave the microwave door closed overnight (about 8-12 hours), remove the vanilla and wipe down the inside of the microwave.

It's amazing what you can learn on this BB. I thank you all. The odor was driving me "crazy". I tried all methods, but the vanilla. However, I will make note of it in case I should ever need to try it.

My BF heated up some left over Calamari in the microwave. I cleaned it but the odor still remains. Any suggestions??

Make some tea in the microwave and let it sit for a few minutes. Or you could use baking soda mixed with water to wash the inside with.

Try cleaning it was a baking soda/water solution. Or white vinegar/water. That should remove the odor. Good luck!

Thanks so much for the suggestions. I am going to try them right now. The smell is a bit nauseating to me.
