My Alligator onion cutter came just this morning. I promptly tried it out. It is made in Sweden and the instructions are brief and in 6 languages. It says "Peel and cleave the onion without tears". I wasn't sure about cleave - I kept thinking 'cleave unto him'...so I looked it up and cleave also means split or divide (I knew that).
So I cleaved - cloved - cleft - well, I cut the onion in half and it works great. It takes a medium size onion. I cut it in half one way, then cut another onion the other and it doesn't seem to make a difference. It comes out in 1/4" sticks, but the layers separate and your onion is cut. It does take a little pressure. I pressed down once and it went almost through, then I pressed a little harder and it went all the way through, but the onion bounced out a little! I think with practice I will be able to do it in one push.
I am going to like it - the onion was cut in less time than it took to peel it and no tears.
Comes apart and dishwasher safe, heavy plastic with steel blades.
