I am considering applying for a teaching position at a wonderful Reggio-inspired preschool in Franklin, Tennessee. I've done a lot of research on the school and the neighborhood and it looks like a great place to live.

I have a cousin that used to be a realtor in Nashville, so I'm going to get in touch with her as well. I'm interested in hearing from anyone who lives in the area.

Thanks,

Beth

I actually just moved here. We currently live in Antioch, but will most likely be building a house in Thompsons Station, just south of Franklin. My husband works in Franklin at the Cool Springs Galleria, and I start my job tomorrow as a preschool teacher, also in Franklin.

What is the name of the preschool? I didnt know of any Reggio preschools in the area. I interviewed at/talked to many in the area and had settled on two, both of which offered me jobs. The Gardner School is the one I passed on (it was a CLOSE call)and I decided to work at the Peanut Gallery

Franklin and all of Williamson county is VERY expensive to live in, except for the area we are looking at Thompsons Station/Spring Hill. You can still find affordable housing in that area. (obviously, if we will be living there...DH is in retail and I am a teacher, so not much dough :D)

What else do you want to know?

Thanks Kim. I'm looking at Spring Hollow Community Learning Center. The position would start in June of next year. What age level do you teach? I'm currently teaching threes and fours in a small Head Start program.

I'm not sure what else I want to know. Should have thought it through before posting, I suppose . I would probably be looking to rent since I'm not in a position right now to buy a house.

I love it here in Chapel Hill, but I'm not happy with the school where I'm teaching. I'd love to teach at a Reggio-inspired school and this one seems amazing.

I'm sure I'll have questions in the next few weeks. Do you mind if I PM you?

I dont mind at all :)

You also may want to check out The Gardner School. They too have a unique aproach to early childhood education. The website is: http://www.thegardnerschool.com/home.htm

They are a very awesome center!

My job will be a pre-k teacher. I had a wonderful dream job in Texas teaching kindergarten at an early childhood center outside of Houston, but Scotts job moved us here. It is AMAZINGLY beautiful here!

PM with any other questions you have. Id love to help you get here :)

Thanks Kim,

I'm checking out their website now. I'll probably schedule a trip to the area in January (if the weather allows.) I probably don't have a great chance of getting the job at Spring Hollow but I'm definitely interested in seeing them in action. The director/owner is sending me a copy of their video.

The Gardner School is opening a new center this summer, so they will definately be hiring!

Again, let me know if you need any help:)

Franklin proper is an old town with a (revitalized, somewhat yuppie) old town square. Quite charming, and it's a spot I often take out-of-town visitors for an afternoon stroll. Fifteen or twenty years ago Williamson County was still primarily farm land, and there's still a serious horsey population. In general, however, it is now the noveau riche part of Nashville -- the outskirts of Franklin and the neighboring "town" of Brentwood is White Suburbia Central. The area is fraught with hastily-constructed McMansion subdivisions, strip malls, chain restaurants, office parks, and all the signs of "growth" that set my teeth on edge. For some people it is a very desirable area of town in which to live because of all this, though, so to each his own. LOL

I'm going to visit the area the end of February and attend a workshop at the school. I know the weather around here is very unpredictable in the winter. What are the winters like in the area?

Funniegrrl, where do you live?

Thanks,

Beth

Winters here are generally mild, but can be unpredictable. It didn't snow much last year, but the year before we have a major snowstorm in January that shut everything down for a couple of days.

It's REALLY cold right now, but supposed to warm up today.

I too live in Franklin. Love the area and the great shops around. We have loved living here, we have been here several years now. The weather is usually not bad. It is cold here today but is supposed to warm up to the 40's, we very rarely get snow, but sometimes we do get ice. It is just a great place to live. I hope if you move here you will enjoy it as much as we do.

Good Luck :)
