Oh, my! I felt like a kid in a candy store. I got some many different kinds of spices. The way the store is set up you can smell before you buy. They have spice blends for grilling, etc., plus the regular spices plus gift packs. They also had, of course, the hard to find spices - like sassafras. I think that was in a couple recipes in the April mag if I could find it...
Tried the pork chop spice. Very tasty and at first tasted salty but my mother, who is very salt sensitive -- and I am, too, to some degree -- weren't dying of thirst afterwards. I also tried the powdered cheese blend. Added it to the mashed potatoes I made. That was good, too.
I will keep you-all posted on each of the spices as I try them...great find... http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

I think the pork chop blend has a lot of MSG, if I remember correctly. Maybe that is why if tasted salty at first?

I went yesterday also, and My My that was fun. I stocked up on all my favorites and found a few more to try. Went to the farmers market afterward and loaded up on fresh veggies. Nice shopping day.

Terry, Where did you find a farmers market? I would love to know where I can get fresh produce!

It isn't far from Penzeys. It is at 610-N and Airline Dr. Go south a couple of blocks. Go early for the freshest stuff.

The Penzy's in Houston in the Heights...I will check on the MSG in the pork spice. I hope not but usually MSG makes me thirsty, too...hmmm....
I don't remember Penzey's using MSG in many blends, so I had to check. Catalog says salt, hickory smoke, garlic, onion, white pepper and ginger. I'm envious since I haven't been able to get there yet, but glad to know where the farmers' market is.

I love the porkchop spice. Yes, it tastes salty, but that's what I love best about it!

they salt-free blends, too, but I opted to start with salt and then if I didn't like it, to switch. So far I've been very happy with my spices.
