View Full Version : help with ingredient in quick chili, april

I was just about to start making the Quick Chili from April's issue, when I realized I had not bought the quick-cooking barley!:-(
I don't have time now to use the "long-cooking" barley, so I'm wondering what I could substitute for it? Any help out there?

Monica,

I used regular barley and it only took an extra 20 minutes. I hope you can spare the extra time. I don't have any other suggestions except to leave the barley out completely. Maybe add extra beans.

I left out the barley completely, left out the quarter cup of water and added some tomato paste to thicken it. Worked fine!!

I used reg. barley also and it was great.
