I am looking to increase my soy intake and was wondering what your favorite soy products are. Brands that is for cheese, milk, any other ideas. I love the soy beans in the pod, however someone told me to get the most benefit, soy must be processed. Kat-

We really like chocolate Silk. All soy milk tastes slightly sweet to me, but chocolate milk is supposed to - so that works out fine.

As for meat alternatives, I'm a big fan of Morningstar Farms. Their Garden Veggie Patties are great topped with lettuce, tomato, onion and cheese all on a crusty, hearty whole wheat bread. They do good breakfast "sausage" links- I haven't had the real thing in about 5 years and have no desire to go back! (Their "bacon" however... blah! I actually used it as a special treat for my dogs.) I also use their Crumbles in place of ground beef in just about any recipe. Yves brand also has some good stuff. We just bought Yves "Canadian bacon" and used it in a breakfast casserole- yum! Their veggie dogs are good too. And finally (so as not to overwhelm you), Lightlife makes great Italian links (Smart links, I think they're called) that are delicious on a roll with sauteed peppers and onions. Hope that helps. Enjoy your soy!
I thought about trying the soy milk-based frozen desserts. I'm trying to avoid large amounts of calcium and other dairy components for digestive problems. But I remembered years ago smelling my niece's baby formula (which was made with soy milk). The stench of the formula alone made me gag and has steered me away from soy-based foods.

I love the Whitewave chocolate soy milk...I've heard the vanilla is good also, but I haven't tried it.
I like soy nuts, you can buy them bulk or get the unsalted geni soy nuts. Sometimes, I'll sprinkle them in different things or on top of stuff like pita bread and hummus. Also, I do agree with the silk chocolate drink. I think odawala has chocolate and vanilla drinks too (www.odwalla.com).

We are very fond of Bocaburgers -- the Chef Max's Favorite. Even meat-eater friends eat these up happily! We even had them for supper tonight along with baked oven fries and my recipe for "skinny" baked beans...
Morningstar is very good too. I use their Burger Crumbles to make Sloppy Joes or spaghetti sauce, sometimes... I like their sausage patties and adore their corn dogs...

I love boca burgers- the original and also grilled veggie. Silk vanilla soymilk is particularly great on cereal and in pudding. I have recently been really into soy sausage as well- Gimme Lean. It is sold in a tube and you can form little meatballs with it and brown it and use it for spaghetti and meatballs, or meatball sandwiches, or put it on pizza for a sausage mock pizza. I must admit that sometimes I just eat it plain it's so good. The funny thing is that I don't even like sausage but the flavor of the soysage is so great.
I also blend silken tofu with peanut butter, honey and cinnamon to make a mock peanut butter that is sooo tasty. You can add bananas to that as well.
Silken tofu can be added to guacamole as well- people can not tell that it's not sourcream! I have had more people rave about my tofu guac. than ever before!
Can you tell that I love soy?

Tempeh is my favorite soy food, besides Silk soymilk. We had tempeh burgers for dinner last night. I marinate it in worcestershire sauce, then brown in a little olive oil and serve on a bun with the usual burger fixings and they're wonderful. The leftovers are good in the morning with eggs,in place of the typical breakfast meats. It also makes good fajitas. Just cut it into strips and marinate with whatever flavor you like (barbecue sauce, soy sauce, etc.) and put on the tortilla with your veggies just like you'd do any fajita. It also crumbles well and can be used in place of ground meat in spaghetti or chili. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif
One more thing, tofu makes terrific pudding!

I forgot about cheese. Try Veggie Slices, my DH and I both like them a lot. They're like american cheese slices and comes in four flavors I think. We like the cheddar. They have a good color, taste and the texture and melting is like regular cheese.
BOCA BURGERS BABY!!
They are awsome! I love the traditional vegan kind, but they have all sorts of varieties. Good stuff

(I really hope the bold thing worked! It's my first time http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif
Silk vanilla soymilk is wonderful..I love it on my cereal! Boca Burgers (Chef Max's favorite) taste better than hamburgers. You should definitely give these two a try.

Count my vote for Boca Burgers! We haven't made traditional burgers for at least two years! I also like roasted soy nuts, but I have to limit myself on them. They're so good I could nibble on them all day, but at 7 grams of fat per 1/3 cup, I have to be really careful. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif

Don't forget about veggie hotdogs...yves and smart dogs are my favs.....I think veggie hotdogs are the most like their meat counterparts....they're shockingly like a real hotdog with no fat and about 45 calories!!! Just make sure you follow the directions on the package. I also like tempeh tacos, Tofutti Cuties (soy cream sandwiches!!) and of course, my MSF Buffalo Wings...they're spicy, so I like to use them on sandwiches, in a salad or on a BBQ chicken pizza with bbq sauce and some ranch dressing. Yum!!
We like EdenSoy original soy milk fortified with beta carotene, B vitamins, and calcium. That is the only milk we use now. It is great on cereal and in shakes. If you don't like the taste of it straight, we sometimes add a spoonful of ovaltine.
Beware of soy powder protein shakes though! I bought a big canister and couldn't choke down even one shake.

JulieM how do you make pudding with tofu? I'm trying to get DD (age two) to eat more protein and have been making her smoothies with tofu. The pudding idea sounds good also. She's just not a big meat eater and the tofu is a great way to get protein in her.

Our whole family likes the Morningstar Farms Chic Nuggets and Patties. They're really good. The kids like the MF corn dogs, too. I also use soy milk in smoothies, with frozen fruit. I think it tastes better with a litle regular milk or plain yogurt mixed in, rather than the soy milk alone. My toddler can't have dairy, so I tried Silk and Whole Soy brands of yogurt for him. They are good - he likes the peach, especially - just not as thick as traditional yogurt.

I love the morningstar farms corndogs - yum!!
Also - there's a soy mozarella called Veggie Shreds, in a green conatiner. It tastes & melts just like regular mozarella. Don't get the cheddar version though - YUCK - it tastes like plastic!!

I really like most products from the SIMPLE SOYMAN. They make the best tofu (ultra firm and easy to work with).
I also like Westbrae Cafe Coffee flavored soy milk. It's a nice pick-me-up in the morning and it tastes like dessert!
