View Full Version : My holiday anxiety....anyone else flying tomorrow?

Hopefully it will be worry for nothing, but I think I'd better stop watching the weather or I'm going to be freaking out.

We are flying to Louisiana tomorrow out of Indy. We are supposed to get at least 1-3 inches of snow here, maybe up to 6, and Indy is supposed to get 6-12 inches. Now, supposedly this will be all over by the time we fly at 6:45 p.m. but it's supposed to be REALLY windy and that means blowing snow. To top it off, looks like we'll be flying into areas that may be having thunderstorms. I don't know that there's any chance we won't have delays on an already very late flight.

Ugh. I know it's premature to worry, and there's nothing I can do about it, but this certainly isn't how I'd like to start off my trip. The last time we flew out of Indy it snowed and we were VERY close to getting into a major car accident (to avoid hitting a truck in front of us, Chuck had to swerve off the road into a snowbank but was able to somehow get back on the road and not hit anyone! ). Maybe we need to pick a different airport? ;)

There, I'm feeling more calm already. Whatever happens, happens and we can't do anything about it. As long as we get there by Christmas morning, we'll be fine.

Anyone else flying in this potential mess?

Good weather thoughts going out to everyone who will be traveling tomorrow. :)

DH is on travel, flying back tonight. We are expecting anywhere from 4-8 or if it drops further south it might be 8-12 inches. I can see him having trouble tonight getting into CMH. Keeping my fingers crossed and everyone please remember, it will do no good to worry! Good luck everyone.

Alysha,

So far, so good here in Indy. I live about ten minutes north of the airport and we don't have any snow on the ground. There is snow at the airport, but not much. It is supposed to pick up this afternoon, but they're already cutting back on the total snowfall predictions for Indianapolis.

Drive carefully and slowly. Have a great trip!

Alysha, just think of how much longer it would take you if you were driving. :D

I would much rather fly than drive in this. And I'm driving home either tonight or tomorrow. :) I'm not too concerned; I grew up driving in snow and ice. :)" It's gorgeous! Just enjoy the view, take an extra book or crossword for the plane and its delays, and look forward to some time with your family.

I'd rather drive! :) I don't like flying because I'm on some else's schedule and I'm not in control. At least with driving we can leave when we want, stop when we want, etc. I've always been a bit of an anxious flyer because of the timetable we must adhere to and the consequences of not adhering to it.

Glad to hear they are scaling back the snowfall predictions.

We'll make the best of whatever happens, but I'm not so sure how wonderful it will be to spend time with my family if we're stuck in the airport with two tired and grumpy kids. :)

Yes, good idea about crosswords - it reminds me to bring a pack of cards too. Lots of entertainment in one little pack of cards.

We're on the back side of all that in Houston, but we had a shower overnight and some drizzle this morning. Maybe the Louisiana end won't be as bad as you are fearing, and if you are flying tomorrow, it may well have moved past the area. I thought today was supposed to be the worst of it on this side of the Gulf.

Do take some activity oriented things, but I would also pack some juice boxes or water bottles and some healthier snacks so the kids don't get rev'd up on expensive airport junk if you run into delays. More stuff to carry, but well worth it. Bets of luck. Hope it's a smooth trip in spite of your fears.

Alysha, just curious if you got out after all? We drove through Indy on Sat. and it wasn't bad THEN, as this was obviously after the storm. Hope all went well.

You're sweet to ask, Erika. :)

It all turned out fine. The roads were mostly cleared by the time we set out, so it was far easier going than I anticipated, though some of the roads in Indianapolis itself were bad. The predictions made it sound like the storm would still be going on when we were supposed to be leaving and that's what had me really worried, especially since it was supposed to be so bitterly cold.

We got to my in-laws quite late, but we got there safely and without too much hassle. :)

See, I am now convinced that my excessive worrying tends to ward off the bad things that I am worrying about. ;)

Alysha :)

Alysha, I'm glad your holiday plans went off as planned!
