Welllll, remember the Old Fashioned Caramel Layer Cake from December of 1999? This is the same cake, almost literally! It's still very good but I was very surprised at how close the buttermilk cake was to the original caramel cake. If you put them both side by side for me, I'm not sure I could tell you which was which!
All that notwithstanding, I will make this cake again. Extremely sweet so make sure you have a tall glass of milk to go with it.

Sweet?!?...Mine had a doughnut-type glaze on it!... Not only that, but it was SO thick, I couldnt spread it without adding milk to it!
I found the cake very flavorful.. but that icing!

Oh I agree on the icing. I had to put it in the microwave twice while I was frosting to get it more "spreadable".

I made this to take to our square dance group on Sunday night, and it was a huge hit. I chose the recipe because it called for a variety of ingredients I needed to use up. I found it easy to assemble (I had no problems at all with the icing... not sure why) and the pecan's on the top were the perfect balance to what would otherwise be just-a-little-too-sweet icing. A definite keeper. And based on shoyski's review above, I'll be adding the carmel cake to my "to try" list. :)
