I'm a little unclear about something. I think I saw some sort of restriction in the FAQs about not using copyrighted material. Is it okay for me to post verbatim a recipe or health advice here on the board that I saw in a magazine or book as long as I say where it came from?

I just looked throught the faq's and didnt see anything about it, but there was a discussion awhile back and I think we decided that if credit was given where credit was due, it was ok to post recipes and quotes from magazines and cookbooks.

ALl you law gurus, correct me if Im wrong http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

From my DH (the copyright attorney):

At the very least, he thinks giving attribution to the original source is important.

Although this could technically be construed as infringment, as a practical matter, he doesn't think there will be a problem, as far as the poster is concerned. He said that it is unlikely that a company would go after the poster because he/she is not making a profit, and therefore it would be difficult to prove damages.

While there might a third-party liability issue (for CL) one could argue they are making some kind of profit - but again, very difficult to prove, and it would probably be more costly to bring suit than it would be worth.

Sometimes it is useful having him around.... http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

Last I heard, the "Internet Police" were on a coffee/donut break, so I don't think we will have to worry about that for a while. There are more serious internet crimes out there for them to handle first. Just quote the source is all I say.
