Easter is coming, time to prepare for Easter Baskets. So here's a silly but fun topic. What's your favorite candy? I'm a chocaholic, and my favorite is Milky Way Dark candybars.

I am a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup junkie. I cannot lie. God put both peanut butter and chocolate on Earth so they could one day meet and become lovers. I thank Him every day for the magic of that union.

I rarely allow myself these little Cups from Heaven, but on Easter I give in. My DH and I are childless, but since I married a 41 year old little boy, I consider the term 'childless' to be only partly true! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/wink.gif I've never been an Easter Basket or dying the eggs type of person, but on our first Easter together four years ago, I woke up at 7am on Easter Sunday, went into the kitchen to start the coffee pot, and noticed this huge basket on the dining table with my name on it. There was a HUGE Reese's Bunny in the middle of it, and Reese's miniatures inside. There were plastic eggs hidden all over the house, each with a Reese's miniature inside. Two weeks later I was watering a plant and found a plastic egg inside! Needless to say, I've started 'doing' Easter for this wonderful man, and I make him a basket just like he was 4 years old instead of 41. Every single year I get a Reese's Bunny in my basket, and every single year I eat it proudly and without guilt, closing my eyes and savoring every single taste of that delectable ear or foot.

DH says if only I would look at him the way I look at that bunny... http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/tongue.gif

Like Jewel, anything with peanut butter and chocolate is at the top of my list. Have you seen the new eggs out that are similar to Cadbury Cream eggs but are filled with real Skippy peanut butter? YUM!! I also am in love with the real chocolate from Godiva, Ghiardelli, and Lindt. -Becca

Chocolate is good but what about Peeps. Mine have to be hard....uncover them at least a few days before devouring! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif. Jellybeans too are my favorite at Easter time. Or how about those little malted candy coated chocolate eggs. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif

OH MY! Robins eggs (colored malted milk balls) are addictive! I'm actually happy that they only are sold around Easter here. My DH insists on eating all the blue ones so he has a colored tongue/mouth http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/rolleyes.gif! I never give up junk food for lent, cuz they get me every time-no willpower http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/tongue.gif.

Jewel, I loved your story. I've given my step-daughter an Easter basket since she first came to live with us when she was 13. I used to put fingernail polish and other little things that a teenager would like in it, as well as candy. She's 34 now! And also married but I still do an Easter basket for the two of them and they love it.

Another favorite candy of mine are the mini M&M's!

Oh I just hate to admit it but I love Cadbury Eggs. Every year at Easter I have to turn my head the other way when I go to the store or I'd buy a whole basket full. Thanks heavens they're only around at Easter time.

A fellow chocolate lover here!

I'm a Cadbury egg fanatic, so I, too, have to avert my eyes every time I see them in the store http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

But my absolute favorite chocolate is Lindt's white chocolate bar filled with white chocolate creme -- especially bought in Switzerland. Oh my gosh. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif

And of course, any dark chocolate is pure bliss, too.

Definitely Lindt's (Lindor)White Chocolate Balls!
They are reminicient of the white chocolate I had as a child...The flavor, now, is definately different that what I enjoyed back then. Back then, white chocolate was much richer. For those interested, they can be found at Cracker Barrel and come in chocolate, mint, white chocolate, and maybe another flavor. Savor them slowly...they are incredible..about .29 each and will make any child from 1-99 happy!
My next favorite is the homemade chocolate covered peanut butter Easter Egg...My next
favorite is the Reese Pastel Paper Covered Peanut butter cups and then the Hershey Kisses...they have to be wrapped in Pastel Paper!
OH And have you ever tried Kinder Eggs? They are SUPER! You eat the chocolate and there is a tiny plastic egg with a toy to assemble on the inside and you would not believe how neat these are! The US stopped them from being sold because the toys have small parts that may pose a choking hazzard to children under the age of three. I buy mine off of eBay! The chocolate is of the HIGHEST quality taste wise!
That's it!

They sell those "Kinder Surprise" in Canada. We always come back with the 24 pack from Costco when we visit (this weekend we will do the same). They are made in Germany and exported. The kids love them.

Thanks Elaine! That name is a little story unto itself...before I met my DH about 4 years ago, I had spent over three years with an abusive alcoholic. Life was really tough, and when I finally broke free, I felt really low about myself. My ex met a tragic end, supposedly because I left him, and I felt even worse. I wondered why I always ended up loving the bad guys? Even the guy before him was a deadbeat that expected me to support him. Seemed like I only attracted the guys with either an addiction, a prison record, six illegitimate kids, or a crazy Aunt Esther that he kept locked in an attic! They treated me like dirt, but I felt like I couldn't attract a nice guy, so I guess I put up with it, even probably expected and welcomed it.

I decided I needed to meet some people, but not in a bar. I placed a personal ad in the newspaper! Got 90 replies, and Dave was #86. We just clicked from the first phone conversation! I honestly thought he was too nice a guy to be attracted to me. He had a steady job that he loved, was an eternal optimist, and always seemed to be in a good mood. We wanted the same things, he made me laugh constantly, and I could truly call him my best friend. It was taking me awhile to open up to him and really let him know the true me, because I was so afraid that he would listen to the tale of my traumatic and Movie-Of-The-Week life and tell me to get lost. Instead, that wonderful man nicknamed me Jewel...because one man's junk is another man's treasure. (sigh)

I only told that story so others would know there is hope! And by the way, YES! He has three brothers, two of them single and handsome, both living in Pittsburgh, PA. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif

I have to vote for plain ole jelly beans. I only eat them at Easter, and I love the super sweetness. Whenever I eat them at Easter I always remember how, as a child, I would always be poking through that fake green Easter grass in my basket, looking for more. Oh, love them except for the black ones, yech!

Chocoholic here, so anything chocolate goes without saying. Around this time of year, however, I can't get enough jellybeans- especially Starburst jellybeans! And Peeps, as Mamasue said, have to be hard. I got some 2 weeks ago and opened them up then... they are just about ripe! In general, my non-Easter favorites are Nestle's Crunch, M&M's and Kit-Kats.

Oh way to difficult to narrow down - lately I've been partial to Milky Ways for a quick fix but sometimes a good, old, solid Hershey bar is just what I need. I am not picky . . . I love it all - 100 Grands, Kit Kats, Reese's . . . oh and also Hershey's Hugs (love white chocolate!!) I usually opt for no nuts but if I need chocolate and the only stuff around has nuts, I don't discriminate! Never coconut, though!

When it comes to the fancy stuff, I love the Lindt truffles ("balls") - white chocolate and mint are my favorites, also Godiva and Guylian (the chocolate and white chocolate swirled candy in the shape of seashells with a chocolate hazlenut type of filling). Vanilla butter creams from a good gourmet chocolate place never disappoint either!

Ok . . . yes, I need help. The above paragraphs prove it!

One year at work I got a box of Godiva for Christmas from the Director of an account team I was on. It happened to arrive on my birthday and before I opened the card I thought it was from my husband (boyfriend at the time). After I opened the card I realized he would never send me chocolate - he knows I need no encouragement. When I told him the story he said, "You're right. I probably never will give you chocolate." Thank goodness dear, old dad still comes through for me on Valentine's Day and at Easter!

Oh, there are sooo many to choose from!! I have to agree with Peanut Butter Cups, especially the egg shape for Easter, and then I make my Peanut Butter cookies and drop little balls into tassie pans, bake and then press an unwrapped mini peanut butter cup into the cookie. Oh, they are good!!

And then there are those chocolate oranges, the ones that look like a real orange and you pick apart the "sections" and its the best orange chocolate!! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

After that, as for homemade goodies, I think I could harm another person for toasted macadamia nuts in white chocolate, oh, they are soooooo perfect for each other!! I have been doing some thinking of putting those two together in a fancy dessert, maybe something with raspberry......ummmmmmmmm

And, Divinity. I think, if I WASN'T thinking, that I could personally eat the entire batch!! Then, drop out tiny balls, dip in warm caramel and roll in lightly toasted, chopped pecans. Oh, that is the ultimate pecan log ever!!

Oh, now I want candy.....

Oh, I loveeeeeee the Cadberry candy coated chocolate eggs. I like to suck the hard shell off or crunch it delicately and chomp and then let the chocolate melt in my mouth - depending on my mood...haven't bought any yet this year...but I don't need them anyway but I still think about them!

crlykat- I'll take the black jellybeans you don't want- I love licorice anything. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

FRANGOS! My Pacific Northwest compatriots may appreciate this- I adore FRANGO chocolates, particularly the hazelnut and the espresso.

KValley, I will gladly send them your way! My dad used to happily eat my black jellybean castoffs until his doctor told him that licorice can raise your blood pressure (I think Im remembering that right). Now they sit sad and dejected in the trash.

My husband grew up outside the US and is very curious about the whole idea of The Easter Bunny and Easter baskets. He said today "I dont get it. Does the bunny lay the eggs or sit on them or something? Where did this story come from?" I really didnt have an answer. He thinks its another American thing. But he sure is happy when he gets lots of chocolate in a little basket I make up for him!

I have trouble narrowing it down to just one, but it would probably be the "sugar" animals my mom used to put in our baskets from a local candy store. The childhood memories ... and I really love the Cadbury bunny. However, my favorite easter candy commercial is the little boy in the chick costume saying "thanks easta' bunny, <bahhck bahhck>". I think it was for M&M's (the bahhck bahhck is my interpretation of a chicken noise). sal

I love the SPICED jellybeans. They have to be spiced! I can never seem to find them, either. As far as chocolate- I'm not too particular! Love anything with peanut butter, peanut m&m's, hershey kisses... getting hungry. I also love those malted eggs. My used to put these things in our Easter baskets and I hated them- they were hard candy on the outside and marshmallow on the inside, but so horribly sweet! Way way too much sugar- even when I was a kid.

Jewel, that's a great story. Thanks for sharing it with all of us. I'm glad you found such a great guy.

No question....malted milk "Robin" egg. Those things have always been my favorite. I *STILL* have horrible memories of when I was pregnant 18 years ago....my monthly visit rolled around and I had gained something like 6 pounds in only one month. The reason?? Malted milk eggs!!! Funny, my son isn't quite so addicted to them!!

Hi Val-
I do love Peeps but that's not where the name comes from (its my boyfriend's nickname for me, long story!), but I'd have to say I'm with you - my fave is the Cadbury Eggs because "they are only around until Easter" as the bunny in the commercial used to say! I love peanut butter cups but those are a year round thing - creme eggs are special and Easter is my favorite holiday!

A pregnant woman should NOT read these posts! I am dying for peanut butter cups now!

Anyway - one of my faves is Junior Caramels. Now those are good, slow melting junk food. Junior mints are also good, but I find I get sick of them after just a few.

As well, Ghirardelli's makes some very nice chocolate - I bought a variety when I was in San Francisco years ago and wish that I had bought more. They make a white chocolate bar with mocha biscotti bits in it.... Wow! Like an upscale coffee crisp flavour.

OK Single Gals, I'm taking bids on DH's single brothers! One is 36, about 5'8" and slender, curly hair, a goatee, and into music, fun, and loves a down-to-earth woman who loves animals. Second (my personal fave! Am I evil?) is 37 years old, 6' tall, dark wavy hair, ADORES kids, has the kind of sense-of-humor that keeps you giggling all the time, is in the banking business, loves his mother, has an 'Angel's Kiss' dimple in his chin...and loves dogs. Both live in the outskirts of Pittsburgh, PA!

Come on, who'll start the bidding?? http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/wink.gif

Well, I already have a cutsey husband so I won't start the bidding (as delectable as they sound). http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif However, I'll add my favorites to the list. I have to agree with the peanut butter cups and especially the eggs that you can get right now (a very nice size!). I also love the Hersheys chocolate covered marshmallow eggs!! Those are sooo good! I put them in the refridgerator. I haven't tried the freezer yet but I bet that would be good too. I also love the malted eggs.

Jewel, I really loved your story too and just wanted to let you know. Thanks for sharing!! What a sweetie you have there!

A trip down memory lane.... I remember Easter baskets from when I was little, and the Easter Bunny always brought a BIG Russell Stover egg in the middle - the kind that came in a box with the plastic window. My brother and I could make our eggs last for a week, cutting off a hunk every day. Yummm!

My favorite chocolates now are Baci, made by Perugina. For those who haven't had them, "Baci" is Italian for "kiss(es?)". They're chocolate and hazelnuts, and each candy contains a little piece of paper "fortune" with a quote about love on it. Great for Valentine's Day!

Jewel - what a wonderful story! Thanks for sharing it with us. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

I LOVE See's. Especially the ones with nuts or caramels. And the rum ones. I've had a wrapped box in my pantry for over a month. I just may have to run home and break into it! (Incidentally, today is my 30th birthday so maybe I just will indulge!)

I also love Reece's PB Cups. However, I think my all time favorite candy bar is Whachamacallit. I also love the Chick-O-Stix...the orange peanut butter-coconutty sticks that are kind of like the inside of a Butterfingers. Ooh, Butterfingers are good, too. I eat off all the chocolate first then savour the inside. I love Toffifay, also. And give me a big hunk of dark chocolate any day and I'm a happy girl! The more I write the more "favorites" I think of.

Oh no! Mid-afternoon chocolate craving hits! Outta my way! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif

Just thought of another one...Almond Joy. Ooh, and Junior Mints. I better stop or I'm going to end up raiding a candy aisle on the way home! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/rolleyes.gif
