t's been 5 years since Y2K---where were you? It can mean physically (bomb shelter anyone :))or a place in your life. I just can't believe its been that long!
My DH and I weren't married, just dating and we spent NYE at Paridise Island at Disney with friends.

We were just talking about that the other day. How time flies. We had just moved from GA to PA and were cramped in a townhouse waiting for our house to be built. We didn't stock up on any extra food or prepare ourselves in any way. I figured what happened, would happen, regardless. I remember my MIL telling us how they stocked up on batteries and water, among other things, and how a couple of years later, were still waiting to use them all up. It's hard to believe it's been 5 years.

Wow, how time flies! Five years ago I spent at a party at my then boyfriend's place. He managed to sneak to the circuit breaker just before midnight and when 2000 hit he flipped the main switch for the mobile home and we all thought something major had happened.
Hmm...just where I am now: at home on the couch with the flu -- 2 days before leaving on a vacation.:eek: At the time, DH and I were engaged. Now we're going on 4 years of marriage!
Happy New Year, all!

My husband and I were engaged, and he was visiting me at my home at the beach. We were on the sundeck on top of our house to watch the fireworks. We didn't think that the lights would go out, but we had a bird's eye view if they did. :D Rob is in computers, and he had spent a lot of time preparing his company for any glitches. He figured any company who was essential was prepared or had backup. We didn't panic.

I actually hadnt thought about it...but now that I do, it's kind of funny...
We had just moved to Houston in August for me to start my first year of teaching. We spent the evening at a party at the guy across the hall from us.
Now we have just moved to Nashville for DH to start a new job...we will be hanging at home, probably be asleep by 10 -11 since DH has to go to work tomorrow.

I was single and poor and at my then best friend's house, drinking.
Tonight I will be sharing a romantic dinner for two with Rob, watching some movies and drinking some champagne....

Times Square!
Needless to say, we weren't that worried about Y2K!

5 years ago...at work (worked the night shift then (shudder). I am a nurse and I remember all the stickers on the hospital equipment that said "Y2K OK" and wondering if they would really work after midnight.

I was still in high school....my parents and I spent New Year's in New Orleans that year. What a great time we had! :)
Much less eventful plans this year. I'm babysitting until 10:30ish then possibly going to a friend's party. I'm not much into the party/bar scene since I barely drink, but I may go by for a while.

Physical Location: Park City Utah, celebrating the new year with 3 other couples and our 5 month old (who was too small to leave home with Grandma!).
Mentally: Freaking out because I had just learned that I was pregnant with #2, and I had no idea when it had happened!!! :o I decided to take a pregnancy test New Year's Eve, since I planned on drinking that night. I was soooo stressed the entire trip, and missed out on skiing, the hot tub, and the most of the champagne (although I did have one glass). It all turned out great in the end of course, but I made myself sick with worry about quitting work, the lack of money, having a toddler and a newborn, etc... :(

Physically, we were in Cambridge, Ontario.
Both of my children were still living at home.
We had bought extra firewood and stored most of it in the garage. (how paranoid is that?) We also had water drawn, and extra food. I even got out the camping stuff.
However, on December 31st, we watched the clocks begin clicking over to 01-01-00 all over the world and figure everything would be okay.
We didn't go to crazy on our Y2K preparations - not any more than I would do for any other disaster. When we had the blackout in August 2003, it prompted me to once again have extra water on hand and extra food, make sure the cars never run on less than 1/4 tank of fuel, etc. I'm still trying to convince DH that it's a good idea to have 5 or 10 gallons of fuel in the garage all the time, but haven't been able to convince him yet.....

In Madison Square Garden at the Billy Joel Concert. My sister and I were really scared, we almost didn't go! My son and husband convinced us to come- my son thought it was helpful to say that at least if we died, we'd all go together
We had a great time, felt safe, Billy Joel was fantastic and NYC around the Garden was really quiet other than concert goers. The crowds stayed in Times Square and we zipped in and out of the city :D

I wasn't even dating my DH then. I was with my then-boyfriend at a party at my friend's place. Drinking margaritas and listening to Prince's "1999" on endless loop. :) I had made sure my car had a full tank of gas and had about $20 in cash on me and felt oh-so prepared. I have no idea what my DH was doing at the time, but we are still working our way through some of the supplies that he had stocked up.;)

I was with my best friend, staying in a time-share cabin belonging to a friend of my father's, about four hours away from here - a real party twon. And I was sick; I spent the entire night moving from the couch to the toilet to the couch to the toilet. The next day we drove home and two days later I was in hospital. Nearly died twice, had two lots of major surgery in the next twenty days, spent four months off work, had two more operations before the year was out.

I remember seeing those as well, and always thinking "phew!". Of course, I went through two drip machine-things before I got one that wasn't faulty!

I was a senior then and had just returned from my study abroad in England. My mom found some really cheap seats (like $66) for my brother (11 yo at the time) and I to fly to DC and see my then boyfriend (now husband). We went down to the mall and took part in all of the festivities. It was really cold. When we got home at about 2 am we went to 7-11 and bought cookie dough and hot chocolate and played scrabble. My brother who lives near Boston with my parents spelled barn b-a-h-n. I guess that's how it sounded to him!
We laughed because DH's roommate at the time really wanted to go out with us but his girlfriend made him stay home in case the world ended. When we came home we found them folding socks, and the roommate looking really sad.
Good times.

Good question - DH and I were recalling our shared New Year's celebrations the other night.
On New Year's Eve 1999, DH and I spent the day registering for wedding gifts (fun! - we got married 9/2/00). Then I cooked dinner at my mom and dad's house for the two of us and my sister and BIL (filet mignon). My mom and dad's neighbor at the time had the same china pattern we had registered for that day, so I borrowed her china and served our dinner on it. Then we just watched TV, saw the ball drop, etc.
eas11, I can't believe you were at the Billy Joel concert at Madison Square Garden! I have the CD from that millenium concert, and I love it. Every time I listen to it I think how much fun it must have been to be there!
