After reading rave reviews, I made these last night. The flavor was really wonderful. The recipe states to cook 10 minutes and not to overbake. I only baked them for 9 and promptly took them out. They had a crisp outside and very chewy inside. DH thought they tasted a bit burnt. I just wanted to know what should the texture be? Crispy and chewy? or soft and chewy?

I really want these to come out right!

When I made them they had a slightly crispy outside and a chewy inside, like you described. I can't imagine that you could have burnt them after only 9 minutes. I think I cooked mine longer than that and they still tasted great. Maybe it is the coffee that your husband was tasting???

thanks zackaboo

I actually thought they were quite good- but I just wanted to doublecheck the consistency and texture. Maybe DH just didn't like them- that's okay. more for me!!!

My DH also said that they tasted burnt when I made them. I think it was the coffee flavoe also. :) I also baked the cookies longer than 10 min. and they were also chewy on the inside and crunchy on the outside.

For whatever reason, the 10 minute timing is critical, not a second passed. Agreeing with the others on texture -- slightly crispy on the outside, slightly chewy and softer on the inside. Delicious!
