I'd like to get a pedometer but I am really not up on these, which would be best, how do they work, etc.
Would appreciate your recommendations, your warnings and advise!
TIA! :D

Well, we got cheap ones ($4 maybe) from wal-mart and have had so much fun with them. All three of us wear them at work together. Although at any given time they are not in sync with each other we do think that over the span of the day they are pretty accurate. You could always start with a cheap one and if you got more serious upgrade.

Do these work if you are running or playing soccer? Will they work if worn to work? I realize it isn't easy to walk everywhere but what is a reasonable goal for walking daily, weekly or monthly?

We follow the 10,000 steps a day guideline.

I'm actually hoping to contact someone who is actively using pedometers. I'm a freelance writer interested in writing about someone's personal experience. If anyone is interested please e-mail at kathyhenn@hotmail.com. Thanks.

Thanks for all the info and stuff. I will try and get out this weekend to get one of the cheapies.
I don't usually get in much walking at work, it depends on what kind of work I've got to be doing during the day....

I've been using a pedometer for a couple of months. I bought the Freestyle model that was the Consumer Reports Best Buy when they reviewed pedometers a couple of months ago, and I've found it to be really reliable. I previously had two cheapies (one from a McDonald's adult Happy Meal) and they were so inaccurate that they were discouraging. The Freestyle was about $20.
