Can you freeze pre sliced mushrooms? If so, what is the best procedure? I would greatly appreciate any advice. Thank you!

I would not freeze mushrooms because you would end up with a mush consistency when thawed. You could probably dry them (using those dehydrating machines) then reconstitute but freezing would deminish quality, texture and appearance

I don't think that mushrooms would freeze well because they are mainly water. Green peppers do not freeze well either. I have heard that if you must freeze peppers, then then you should cook them slightly first. Maybe the same is true for mushrooms.

If you have extra and are willing to chance it, I would try both ways, as a test. I would not go out and buy extra mushrooms just to try it.

I frequently freeze mushrooms with no problem. Just make sure they are cooked beforehand.

I've even put them in a covered dish in the microwave to cook them and then put them in the freezer.

I knew this question (as most questions!) had probably been asked before...

I'm going to try this cooking them in the microwave thing, so I can freeze them. (I'm going out of town tomorrow). Does anyone know how long I would nuke them?

Thanks,
Terri

I haven't frozen them myself, but I buy frozen, raw mushrooms at Trader Joe's frequently. I've never noticed a problem with consistency when I cook with them.
