I am making the Died and Went to Heaven cake for dessert tonight. I made it in 2 layers, and bought some of that Polaner All Fruit to use as a filling between the layers. My question is, do I just put it on the bottom layer and then put the top layer on, and the frost the outside as usual, or is there anything else I need to do?
I'm making a chocolate Swiss buttercream frosting for the outside.
Thanks! :)

That's what I've always done. I do either slice off the rounded top of the layer to be used as the bottom OR invert it so I have an even surface on the top of my bottom layer. (make sense?) That way the preserves don't slide off!

Andrea, yes it makes perfect sense. Do I need to worry about the top layer sliding off? I'll be transporting the cake later tonight.

If the jam is loose, or if you want a thicker-than-surface-tension-will-allow layer, you can pipe a "dam" of the buttercream around the top edge of the bottom later prior to filling with the jam.
Yum. That sounds like a great cake!

Jen, Thanks for the idea. I think I will do that.
I hope it is good! :) Today is DH's aunt's post-holiday party, and it also happens to be her birthday. I really wanted to make a nice birthday cake for her.
Oh the pressure! :)
