When served a cocktail (or anyother drink for that matter) that has fruit on the rim of the glass, is it proper to take the fruit off and drop it into the drink, take the fruit off and put on a saucer (or napkin)or not take it off at all and drink the drink?

TIA

Sometimes it depends on the drink. If it's Sangria, drop it in the drink (provided there is not some floating there already!). Margaritas (flavored) sometimes have fruit on the rim, then it should be placed on the plate.

Or, just eat it - as I do. Especially the maraschino cherries - yum!

Oops, forgot. Limes with your gin and tonic are meant to be squeezed into the drink.

I drink TNT's and I always resqueeze the lime and put it into the glass. If I get a fruity drink (Colada etc...) I tend to eat the fruit prior to drinking. I think as long as you don't whip the fruit onto the floor there won't be a problem :o ;) :p

I'm curious...how did this come up? Did you get taken to task by somebody for supposedly doing something 'wrong'? For me it depends on the drink and the fruit. If it's a cherry or a piece of fresh pineapple you betta believe I'm going to eat it. :D If it's a lime I'd squeeze it into the drink then drop it into the bottom of the glass. Orange slices are a little more problematic due to the rind. I might not mess with that at all but leave it on the side of the glass.

Okay-we were having breakfast at Brennan’s in New Orleans where they were serving Mimosa’s with a strawberry on the rim of the glass. Some people were leaving it on the rim, some people were putting it into their glass, some were eating it and some were putting it under their chair. This has become a topic of discussion...

MMMMMM Brunch at Brennans! Yum, did you have the turtle soup? I've been to the one in Houston and absolutely love their food. Oh, and bananas foster. Okay, now I'm drooling.........

With a strawberry, I'd probably eat it, but I think anything but putting it under the chair is okay. ;)

Robyn1007 - Yes on the turtle soup...going to Brennan's for breakfast is a tradition for DH & I! I have a Brennan's cookbook at home and the recipe is in there, the only place I can find turtle meat is in the Farmers Market in NOLA. Guess I'll sub "chicken". ;)

Brennan's is in N.O. In N.O., you are allowed to do whatever you darn well please with your drink, your fruit, and your glass. Remember, Brennan's is just up the street from that place with 4 for one happy hour!

Under their chair? I can't even imagine why someone would do that. Wouldn't leaving it on the table (or the rim of the glass) be sufficient if they didn't want to eat it? :D

Jazzmatazz49 - do you make turtle soup? If you do, where do you get your turtle meat?

cjm, I've never made turtle soup. I've seen the turtle meat (frozen) at various seafood stores. I like it okay, but that's something I eat when I'm at at restaurant.
