View Full Version : Pineapple on my ham

Hi everyone,

This may seem like a silly question, but I'm really wondering - is it okay to use fresh pineapple slices on my ham, as opposed to canned? My mom always used canned pineapple, but our local produce store has great pineapple (cored already) on sale, and I thought I'd give it a whirl. Having never done so, I'm thinking it may cause a reaction of some sort (like it does when making jello).

See - I told you it was a silly question!

The fresh pineapple will work fine and of course taste better too! If I remember correctly, my Mom always made a paste with brown sugar and some of the juice and brushed it over the ham and pineapple slices before she put it in the oven. Do you do that too?

My procedure is to make a glaze of brown sugar, pineapple juice and mustard (either dry, or jarred) and put that on the ham.

And, of course, attach the pineapple slices to the ham with whole cloves!
