I just saw South Lake Tahoe on TWC. The snow is unbelieveable! the stop sign is nearly buried as well as street signs. How long will this hang around?

Kay checked in yesterday on this thread. Maybe the picture I posted won't be far from the real thing by the time it's all over!

Keep in mind that Kay lives lake level. While she still will get a bunch of snow, some of the quotes that you hear are for higher elevations.... At the moment, the Bay Area is dry so Tahoe shouldn't be getting any snow. Its supposed to rain tonight though, so the snow will be falling soon enough

I'm not Kay, but I also live in Tahoe.

Actually I have lived here for 6 years, and this storm doesn't really seem all the different than the snow we have every year. Seems to be getting more news coverage this year, all of my realtives have been calling to make sure we're ok.

This much snow is a crazy thing. After awhile of shoveling, you really run out places to put it all. (No, we don't have a snow blower, crazy I know.) My piles of snow on either side of my driveway are about 8 to 9 feet high. And the frustrating part is shoveling it all, and then having a snow plow come by and push all the snow from the street back into your driveway. This happened three times to me on Saturday.

BUT, I am not complaining:D !! I love living here (and I don't even ski!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

I wish I could post some pictures, but I don't understand the whole imagestation site.

Missi, I didn't mean to leave you out! How do you cope with THE PILES OF SNOW? The pictures I saw were unreal. How long does it hang around? Are the stores open? Are schools closed? How much snow is there? Stay safe and very warm.

Well, snow here isn't like it is in other places. The town knows they are going to get it, so we prepare for it. Most stores are open. Schools are open. Streets get plowed all most immediately. Where this much snow would be devastating in other places, it's almost routine here. Also, since a huge part of our economy is based on tourism, city officials have a lot of motivation to make the roads passable.

Most of the pictures you probably saw were at 9000 and 10000 feet. Lake level is about 6,300 feet, so where I live gets a lot less snow than the higher elevations. (We've had about 6 feet in the last two weeks). The only businesses at the higher elevations are ski resorts that LOVE getting this much snow!!

As far as how long it will stick around, it is hard to say. The air is dry up here, so as it starts to warm up, a lot of the snow will melt. But with this much snow, it doesn't go away very quickly. And we will definately have more snow by the end of the winter. So my guess is, I will still see some snow in my yard until at least April. And it has snowed in every month on record here in Tahoe. Last year it snowed in June.

Despite all this, I LOVE it here. But I've only done the winter thing six times. I hear from people all the time who have been here for years, and just can't take it anymore and are moving away, all because of the brutual snowfall.

So anyone want to come and visit and help shovel?!?!?!?:D ;)

Vicky,

Forgot to mention that I grew up in Evansville, Indiana. Not sure where you are in Indiana, but I can tell you Evansville never had this much snow!!!!! All my family is still in Indiana, so they are always amazed, too, by the stories about the snow here!!

Missi, thanks for replying. 6 feet of snow-holy bejeebers. I am in Nw In, Chesterton to be exact. We are at the southern tip of Lake Michigam. I f you have been to the Indiana Dunes that is Chesterton. Two feet would be a lot for us and schools would be closed. I have been through your city headed for warmer climates! Take care.

Vicky

We have had snow on the ground and flying though the air in April, too. Spring usually arrives in June, Seriously.
