Just curious has anyone made this? Its from March 1999 (also in 2000 annual page 74). I happen to have heath bars around and it sounded like something interesting to try...

Okay, was I clear enough? http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif
I've made this about four times and everyone wants to finish off the cake in one sitting.

Just had to add that we really enjoyed this also. It's been a long time since I made it, but it's really tasty.

Hmmm...I haven't baked in awhile. I think this may be on the list of stuff to make this weekend. Looks yummy.

I have those toffee chips already in a bag but the recipe calls for one crumbled candy bar. Any idea how much that comes out to in a measuring cup?

ewatkins - do you have a kitchen scale? I would suggest measuring out 1.4 oz. If you don't have a scale I'd use 1/4 to 1/3 cup....but that's just a guess on my part.

Thanks everyone for reminding me of this recipe. I made it yesterday and it's really scrumptious! I don't know how we're supposed to get 8 servings out of it however. The two of us ate half of it at one sitting.

I made this today and it's yummy! I don't have an 8 inch pan, so I baked it in a 9 inch cake pan. Also, I didn't measure my orange zest. I just used all the zest of an average size orange, which I'm sure was more than 1 t.

This sounds so good! What type of a taste does it have? Is it very orangy? This board is dangerous sometimes. I have so many recipes that I want to try!!!!!

Hmm, I think its sort of coffee cake-ish, with yummy blobs of marmalade on the top. I've made it a few times and its great but I actually prefer it without the heath bars- I do like heath bars, its just the marmalade/chocolate combo that I found a little odd. Its very moist though, quite tasty and very easy to make - I've tried it with apricot jam (no heath bars) and that was great too.

Thanks for your thought, Peeps. Do you think I could make it with another type of jam (besides the orangy ones)? I don't know if that would mess up the taste.

I think you could make it with any kind of jam (I thought about trying others myself) - its just a matter of what you like (and what you think would go OK with heath bars if you're using them). I didn't use the zest so mine was probably less "orange-y" than the recipe intended. But I would think even with the zest, most jams would still go well since they're all fruity. So, go for it, try whatever you have around!

Thanks, Peeps! I think I may try it with a different kind of jam. I'll let you know how it goes.

Gosh I forgot about this great recipe...so I will make it again. About using a different JAM please note it calls for marmalade which has a different consistency than jamsince marmalades always include a citrus fruit and usually have rind suspended in the mixture. Citrus fruits are rich in pectin, so there is rarely any trouble getting these jams to set. You could use in this recipe a different marmalade rather than orange.

I've tried this recipe with non-marmalade, regular jams and its been fine. In fact, I don't think I've ever tried it with marmalade, come to think of it! I used an apricot jam a few times and that was very good. So I'd say try whatever jam you like - its similar to those raspberry jam coffee cake recipes that have jam blobbed on top so it does work.

I'm reviving this thread as I found the recipe in the Recipe Finder and there were no reviews there, so of course I looked here. I don't know how I missed this recipe before, but I want to make it NOW!!! You all seemed to love it!! :D I don't think I have any marmalade, but I do have plenty of jam and preserves.

I'm glad yall brought this recipe up. It sounds great and I just bought some orange marmalade, will just have to go get Heath Bars...they don't 'keep' well! Ewatkins mentioned using the toffee chips in a bag. They don't have chocolate on them like the bars do. I used them in my Death by Chocolate recipe one time and was disappointed.

I couldn't find Heath bars, or any Heath Bits in the baking section, but I did find Heath Bites in the candy section. I'll just weigh them and chop them up and use it. I'll be using some peach preserves (or maybe blueberry preserves - haven't decided) instead of the marmalade.
Madpots - As for the toffee bits {Skor), they are good, but I don't use them in recipes that call Heath. They are different IMHO.

I'm assuming that you meant that you didn't know that the Skor and Heath Bars were different. The Heath are chocolate covered toffee bits where the Skor are just toffee bits.
By the way, the cake was delicious!! By the time I was ready to take a bite, DH was getting his second piece. I made it with peach preserves after all. :D
