I just bought my 2 1/2 year old the Elmo's Magic Cookbook. It is great for all cooks who have small children. My daughter is always watching me cook and wants to help. It backs up all the things that I want her to learn, like, 1)wash your hands, 2)use a recipe, 3)be careful of the hot things, 4)you need ingredients and where they come from, 5)you need to taste new things, etc. Emeril is on it helping Elmo make pizza, (you know, real pizza where you make the dough, not delivery) and even though I am not a big Emeril fan, he is good in this. I highly recommend it!

Thanks. I've seen this video in the store and wondered how it was. DD loves to watch me cook and we bought her a Little Tikes kitchen for Christmas that she loves to "cook" on for us. How advanced is it? She will be two the first of June.

My daughter will be 3 at the end of July and loves it. My kid loves anything with Elmo, so at least that should keep her interested. Plus, if she watches you cook, and you tell her what you are doing, she will get more of it than the average kid. She will likely get more out of it as she gets older, but would get some out of it now, much like S.Street in general. Many the SS regulars, Telly, Cookie Monster, Grover, Alan, etc are in it and you will recognize some of the cartoon bits from the regular series (Ruth Bussie (sp?) doing "The girl that likes to try new food"). The main weak link is that two out of three of the songs are pretty iffy. The one by the woman from Broadway, about tasting new things, is pretty good.
Interesting that the main part of the video my DD remembered today was a bit from the regular SS show with a guy ordering delivary pizza and Grover keeps not listening and getting it wrong. I was telling my DD that she needed to listen to me about something and her eyes lit up and she said, "like Grover on the video......"!

I saw that one recently and wondered what it was about. My biggest concern would be that my 4 yr old son would think it meant he could take off and try to cook by himself. Last year, I had gone to the bathroom and came back into the kitchen to find that he had gotten out the eggs and a large bowl and was proceeding to crack all the eggs into the bowl. He had done seven with no drips and only one broken yolk. Both the boys like to help, but he's something else! Gotta love a heart like that.

That said, even if he did take off on something, he's have a better chance of doing it well. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

Did anyone see Elmo on Sara Moulton Monday? He was adorable.

I have a really pressing question-what exactly is Elmo supposed to be????

Beth, we gotta think there is a special place in heaven for 4 yr old boys that can crack eggs without breaking the yolks! In answer to your question is that one of the things they (the Genie) talks about is that kids can cook but they need an adult to help them, because things are hot, knives are sharp, etc.

Thanks for the heads up on Elmo on TV. We are headed to our beach place for the weekend and get Food Network there, but not here at home! Go figure!

I've seen an advertisement on the TV Food Network that is saying there will be a special on Sunday with Emeril and Elmo. I didn't catch the time, but hopefully I'll see it advertised again.

I think Elmo is just supposed to be a red furry monster. My DD loves Sesame Street and especially Elmo's World which comes on the last 15 minutes.

Oh, a monster! Well, that makes sense...
