Mom's invited us to Easter dinner, and asked me to bring the wine. She's making beef rib roast -- any wine suggestions? Thanks in advance; and Happy Easter or Happy Passover, fellow BBers!

Villa Mt. Eden has this amazing wine called Anthology. It retail for about $55 but is worth it. Their Cabernets (both reserve and regular) retail for the low $20's and are terrific. I probably wouldn't suggest a merlot (not bold enough for the rib roast) but they have a great Merlot as well (and no, I don't work for the winery http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif )

Barbara,

Roasted beef calls for a smooth, mature red that can hold its own next to the rich, juicy meat. I recommend a California Zinfandel- in particular Ravenswood Vintners Blend. It has a spicy, blackberry, pepper flavor that is perfect for red meat. Ravenswood is pretty common- you shouldn't have a problem finding it in a grocery store and certainly not in a wine, but look for the Vintners Blend in particular. It's around $12-15/bottle.

Salud!

Have to second the vote for the Ravenswood Zinfandel. It is a wonderful wine!
