I know there was a thread last year where people described kitchen mishaps... I'm having one of those days today...

I'm thawing out chicken thighs in the microwave, they're in a freezer bag - I squeeze the chicken hoping to break them apart and in doing so the bag bursts open spewing raw chicken juice all over my microwave........ wonderful.

I am then chopping garlic for my marinade, I am scooping the garlic and putting it into a large plastic bag... I drop my chopper with minced garlic - it nearly misses my foot and now I have minced garlic all over me and my floor.

My lovely children are outside playing in the snow. They decide to come in via our garage (which is the correct way to come in when you are wet) - however, they bring along 3 of their friends and ALL of them run through my kitchen with wet snow boots, snow pants etc.......

How has YOUR day been? :)

Apparently January 24th has been pinpointed to be the worst day of the year. See this article (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/4187183.stm) from the BBC.

So it can only get better from here on out!

I think we all have had days like that! A couple of weeks ago, my DS told me (at bedtime - of course) that he needed to bring cookies to school the next day. He requested Monster Cookies, which I have never made before, but the recipe seemed simple enough. So, I go to the store to get some ingredients, but there was a slight mishap with the garage door and the car (I was too excited to leave and didn't realize the door was fully up). So, now these cookies have costed me one garage door (it works 50% of the time - waiting for the weather to warm up so my DH can try to fix it).

Get home and try to make the Monster Cookies. The cookies just crumbled - not sure if I didn't use enough peanut butter or what. So, me, in my infinite wisdom, decide to make them into bars and pour chocolate over the top so they stick together. Bad move. The bars bubbled over into the bottom of the oven. So, I got to spend the weekned cleaning black Monster Cookie goo from the oven. The next morning, I had to go to the grocery store to buy homemade cookies. LOL!

Me too! Me too!

Yesterday: I'm making a Cheesy White Lasagna, Rosemary Focaccia, Blue Cheese and Apple Salad, and a Cranberry-Ginger Upside Down Cake.

I went to the grocery store in the AM. Came home and realized I forgot the darn spinach for the lasanga.

Grating the ginger for the cake - dropped it all over the floor.

Melted part of the cranberry bag to one of my burners (and I only have two left as DH shorted out one and I melted his lunch cooler to the other last year).

Then as DH is heading out to the store to get the items I forgot, my English Setter (Ben) decides to disappear.  DH found him down by the road...he found a dead deer that was more interesting than coming when called.

I decide to divide the lasagna into two small pans - one for eating one for freezing (which usually works great) - and didn't have enough filling to do both. But as they were both basically assembled, I baked them anyway.

With the exception of the lasagna, meal turned out great! :D

So, yes. I can totally relate! ;)

Look at the bright side (which is what you have to do in these situations), you're married right? Assuming you are, that's good, because the smell of raw chicken juice and fresh garlic all over you would certainly not help in attracting anyone ;)

We've all had those days, heck some have those LIVES. Today's going ok so far, but it's not over yet. :D

I have been the queen of butter fingers this week. Every time I open the fridge something falls out on me. I know it is because I'm on edge as we are thinking about a major transition and are in that "limbo" stage but enough already!

Varalie, what a great sounding menu. Yum! (not to hijack this thread, but would you post that cake recipe somewhere?)

How about having cocoa powder all over the floor?
Reached in to get to something else and the lid came off, it was the nestle cocoa so it really wasn't on there very well because of the package design but it went all over the floor and I can't get it up off the floor, I have mopped and swept I don't know how many times too. Makes me mad I lost the whole thing and there wasn't that much out of it.

Yesterday was the day of fires I think. My mother in a rush to get the dogs out and shoveling started, put a pot of water on the stove at a low temp to put moisture in the air. She proceeded to go out and shovel. She came in a bit later to let the dogs in and came in to a house of billowing smoke and a fire in the kitchen. She turned the wrong burner on and lit up a cutting board. Luckily the fire was contained to the stove and she had a fire extinguisher in the kitchen. She now has a ton of smoke damage.

Fire #2 - My cat. (he is ok) I had a candle on my computer desk next to me when I was on-line. Spenser was in my lap and proceeded to jump up on the desk to look at the window. He never does that! Well sizzle crack pop - some of his hair got singed pretty good. He is a persian so luckily there is a lot of hair and it didn't go down to his skin. I was pretty quick and expelled it.

Fire #3 - my neighbors house at 1:30 a.m. It is a group home and was there third fire since July. This time it was their washer/dryer. Fire was contained and don't know what caused it. Luckily know one was hurt. This home is only a year old so I don't understand what could be causing this.

Today - fire free so far.
Hope you are having a better day.

Missindi,

You had me ROTFL but you are correct. I tried to quote you but it didn't let me.

I have had a pretty good day although it isn't over yet.

Ha - I'm unquotable! :D

Cinnabun -- I hate those cocoa spills, slightly worse than flour and confectioner's spills. What a pain.

My car died today. We had to roll it into town to the repair shop (just a few blocks).

I keep reminding myself that it could have happened yesterday, when I was driving 20 miles through the worst snowstorm in 20 years to get to work. Things can always be worse.

Here I just thought it was me. Work was one of those bad days where every patient I saw was worse or ended up in the hosptial. I didn't even attempt cooking, just reheated some leftovers and am crawling into bed to read and fall asleep. Here's to a much happier 25th!:)

Perfect thread for today...

My mishap was flour. I keep my flour in big rubbermaid containers. I keep them on top of the fridge. I always grab the container, flip it upside-down once to fluff it then open it and measure. I think you can see it coming...

Yup...flipped to fluff and whamo, flour everywhere. I have been doing this flipping thing for years and never had a mishap.

OOOOOOoooOOoooooh and the best part is I only needed 3 Tablespoons for the Roasted Tomato Bisque!!

Anyway...here's to the 25th!
