View Full Version : What's your favorite Seinfeld episode or incident?

We watch a ton of Seinfeld reruns and really love the show. Sarah's post about the Soup Nazi gave me an idea for this thread - what's your favorite Seinfeld episode - or incident during the show?
I loved the Soup Nazi but my all time favorite is when Kramer lost the car in the parking garage. DD loves when Elaine wouldn't give out just a square of toilet paper in the ladies room.
What's your favorite?

Wow, which episode don't I love?? DH & I are also huge fans. LOVE that show... I do like the Soup Nazi, too. A classic.
How about the Junior Mint episode? "It's a JUNIOR mint!"
I also love the one where Kramer was tanning and ended up basting himself with butter; then he was all crispy and as he and Newman were sitting in the diner, Newman saw Kramer as a turkey on a platter.
The library one was great, too (Tropic of Cancer was the overdue book). Mr. Bookman, the detective, had me in stitches!
Of course, "The Contest" was awesome, as was "The Pez Dispenser." DH and I can't look at a Pez dispenser without doing that little finger clap Jerry did with Tweety!
Then there was the big salad one.
(I could go on, can you tell?) Jimmy was pretty funny- the one with Mel Torme. "Jimmy thinks Elaine is cute."

Without a doubt the episode about the "Manzier," a/k/a "The Bro." Second favorite is the Festivus one. I just love George's parents!

The one that has me rolling on the floor is when Kramer is in a "taking pictures" phase and he takes a picture of Elaine for her Christmas cards. Turns out her nipple is showing in the picture - only she doesn't realize this until she has already sent them out.
The thing that really makes me laugh, though, is that George keeps complaining that he didn't receive a Christmas card and Elaine gets so irritated with him that she says, "You want a Christmas card? You want a Christmas card?" She grabs his head and rubs his face against her breasts and says, "HERE'S your Christmas card!"

I LOVE so many. The Rye Bread was on last night - right now I have the one where Jerry dates the girl that wears only one dress. I love the one where George "flags" the book in the bookstore by taking it into the men's room. Oh, and the one where George is "pleasing himself" to a Glamour Magazine and lands his mother in the hospital is a riot too. :D :D
Oh, I love George's parents!

The Chocolate Babka. I thought it was hysterical and when I went to work the next day, people were asking me if Chocolate Babka is really that good. Yes it is! I had my sister bring up a few when she next came.
Also in that episode was a discussion of the last time Jerry threw up...I've had those conversations with people!
Those mentioned already,The Contest,The Nippleand The Manzier are also favorite's of mine.
Love em all an don't seem to tire of the reruns! I still mourn the loss of the show- would have like to continue aging with that crew :D

Rosenfeld's in Newton Center, really. More dense than a NY Babka, but absolutely delicious!!! The whole wheat challah is also fabulous!
BTW, they are kosher, so don't plan on ever visiting them late Fri or Sat as they close for Shabbat.

Thanks Ellyn. Whole-wheat challah sounds heavenly.
How about the one where Kramer has the Asian men sleeping in the drawers of his dresser as their hotel?
Or when Elaine asked Newman to be the hit man on her neighbor's dog that wouldn't stop barking?

The one where Jerry can't remember his girlfriend's name - he only knows it rhymes with a female body part, so he calls her "Mulva."
The one where Jerry goes on the Today Show and agreed to wear the "puffy shirt."
The one where the writer doing an interview with Jerry thinks he and George are gay.
The contest is a classic! So is the junior mint episode.

"It's Festivus for the Rest of Us".
My all-time favorite is "The Subway."
Jerry falls asleep and wakes up sitting across from a fat naked guy: "I'm not ashamed of my body." "That's your problem, you should be."
Elaine screaming silently when her train stops in a tunnel ("Move! Move!! MOVE!!!") and the conversation she has with a woman next to her: "My luck. I don't talk to a soul in the subway for 35 years. I get a best man at a lesbian wedding." "No, you don't understand! I'm not a lesbian! I hate men, but I'm not a lesbian!"
And Kramer: "His mudder was a mudder."

Some great episodes have been mentioned. So many of those are faves of mine. But my all time favorite still has to be when George pretends to be a marine biologist. "The sea was angry that day my friend..." I just love the way George tells that story.
And let's not forget A festivus for the rest of us and Serenity now!
And what about the one where they spend the whole time waiting for a table in the Chinese restaurant?
Yes, they're all great. I was going to mention the "Shrinkage" episode, too, and also the Puffy Shirt.
Also love the Chinese restaurant episode, where they're waiting for the table. And when they get lost in the parking garage. Oh -- also the one where Elaine is dating the guy whose favorite song is "Desperado."
Probably my all-time favorites are any where they go to Florida to visit Jerry's parents at Boca Del Vista Pines.

I think that's my favorite too, though I also love "The Contest" and the one with the rye bread. How about the one where George has a job interview that ends with him not being clear on whether or not he was actually hired, so he shows up for work anyway - and is given the "Pennske file" to work on? Or the one where Jerry and George are terrified after meeting Elaine's gruff father in a hotel lobby while waiting for Elaine, and confer in the bathroom to discuss what to say to him in order to make a early exit ("we're frightened and we have to leave")!!

It's so hard to narrow it down - all the ones mentioned so far are great. However, I think that the episodes that have left us (by us, I mean my family anyway) with new vocabulary that we use in the rest of our lives: Mulva (only because we have a friend named Melva), Festivus, close-talker, low-talker, puffy shirt, shrinkage, mansierre, sponge-worthy, and, best of all MOOPS! I'm sure there are many more.

The amazing thing about Seinfeld is that almost every episode has some sort of classic bit - the show really gave a lot to our popular culture.
In addition to some of the shows mentioned, I love the one where they're in the parking garage, the one where they're waiting for a table at a Chinese restaurant, and, of course, the one with the rental car:
"JERRY: I don't understand, I made a reservation, do you have my reservation?
RENTAL CAR AGENT: Yes, we do, unfortunately we ran out of cars.
JERRY: But the reservation keeps the car here. That's why you have the reservation.
RENTAL CAR AGENT: I know why we have reservations.
JERRY: I don't think you do. If you did, I'd have a car. See, you know how to take the reservation, you just don't know how to *hold* the reservation and that's really the most important part of the reservation, the holding. Anybody can just take them."

At the time it was a bit disppointing only because they were to spend a year in jail. I think I expected so much more. However, I must admit I love it in reruns - love how all the characters come back and and paint them in such a negative way. Also, the last episode ends the way the first one started - with the button conversation between George and Jerry.

I like the one where Kramer is swimming in the East River. Seeing him flop off the dock is too hysterical.
Also, Jerry dates a girl whose face changes with the light - she's pretty; she's scary; etc.
Anything with Elaine and Puddy. "That's it, we're broken up."
When George buys the Frogger machine and has to get it across the street.
When Kramer does everything in the shower - even making salad.

What about the one where George pretends to be a marine biologist and then ends up pulling the golf ball out the whale?
Or, during the "shrinkage" episode, where Jerry and Elaine can't look at the baby because it's so ugly?

This truly was a classic sitcom.

One of my favorites is when Jerry's dating the woman who played Charlotte on Sex in the City, and he accidentally drops her toothbrush in the toilet and doesn't tell her, but then he won't kiss her because he has that germ phobia. And then when he finally does tell her, she locks him out of his apartment and dips one thing into the toilet but won't tell him what it was.
So he throws away everything he owns just in case, only to find out that she dipped the toilet brush in the toilet.
Love that one.
And I love the one where George is a "bad boy" and dates Elaine's coworker, and then they end up at the police station and Elaine and Mr. Costanza have to pick them up...that episode has a whole series of outtakes at the end where Elaine can't stop laughing when Mr. Costanza shouts, "You want a PIECE A' ME????":D :D :D

My favorite is when Kramer finds out that wearing tighty-whiteys can lower the sperm count, and he doesn't like boxers. So, eventually he stops wearing underwear altogether, but before he announces it, Jerry figures it out and says to Elaine: "Don't you see? There's only a thin layer of gabardine between HIM and us!"
And then Kramer says, "I feel like a naked Indian boy and I'm Lovin' every minute of it!!" (although in reruns the words were changed to "naked innocent boy").
Cracks me up every time!
Oh, how could I have forgotten the Maestro and the villa in Tuscany?
DH and I remembered another one that we loved, over the weekend -- the one where Jerry is dating the woman who likes mutton? So he stuffs the mutton in his coat pocket, and then, for some reason, Elaine borrows his coat, and is chased by dogs on her way home.
And no, I wouldn't call the show "mean" -- yes, Jerry and the gang were certainly callous about any number of things -- but the show always approached the four of them with the idea that ultimately, they were such big losers, too, that you couldn't take any of it seriously.

And speaking of Seinfeld trivia, isn't it weird that they never made a trivia game? There's trivia games for everything - even Friends - so why not a classic like Seinfeld? If anyone knows of one, please let me know. I saw one on an AOL CD but I'm not sure if you need to download AOL in order to play the game and there's no way I want or need AOL.

Okay, so I am the only one who is loser-ish enough to know the answers to these questions? Hint to the Puerto Rican Day parade episode: George's and Kramer's aliases are ones they have used before in other episodes...
Here's the answer to the Bizarro world episode:
Bizarro world Jerry = Kevin
Bizarro world George = Gene
Bizarro world Kramer = Feldman
Bizarro world Newman = Vargus
