As many of you know, I was laid off from my job last Friday.

I got a job offer today :D I start a week from Monday. The job is to be a Senior Consultant (its a W-2 position) for an IT consulting company. The local client that I will be placed at is about a 15 minute drive from my house and gives me the flexibility that I need.

Even better, I can bank my severance, accrued vacation and retention bonus :D

Congratulations Tyra, I am so happy for you!

You will have a nice week off and then back to work, the shorter commute will be fabulous not to mention being able to bank your time.

Have a great first day!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ana:
A W-2 job is a regular job where you are considered an employee, get benefits, and have taxes taken out of your paycheck. The alternative to that job is to be considered a 1099 employee, which means you are a self-employed contractor. You are responsible for your own benefits and taxes.

As a programmer/analyst many times jobs are 1099 vs W-2. I need the benefits so I prefer working as a W-2 employee. It also allows me to collect unemployment if the job ends while as a 1099 contractor, since I'd be self-employed, you can't collect unemployment.

YYAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!

What a wonderful bonus to bank your severance and bonuses. Enjoy your week off (I would have taken 2 weeks!! :D ).

I missed the end of the klatch with Erin's appt so I'm just getting the great news!! Her wrist is just sprained, BTW, so we're all breathing a sigh of relief.

Congratulations again!

That is sooo great! Congratulations! Trust me the shorter commute is worth everything! This is the first time since I started working professionaly that I don't commute 45-90 minutes.

Glad things are working out, this is going to be a great year!

Thanks for all the good wishes :) I don't have much planned this week. I'm going to go see Million Dollar Baby today at the matinee, Thursday I'll meet my parents for lunch, Saturday I'll get a mani/pedi with a friend. Tuesday I need to finalize where Alex's Bar Mitzvah lunch is.

As much as I would love to go away for a few days for a splurge .... the boys sort of prevent that (I don't want to pull them from school).

Hard to splurge when your free time is from 8:30 to 2:45 :D
