I know it's really early, but I've already been invited to an April Fool's potluck. I noticed the twinkie sushi on the bb just recently and it looks really fun. Are there any other wacky recipes out there that you could share?

Here is a fun recipe that I made last year. It's an April Fool's Cake which is basically a meatloaf with mashed potatoes as the frosting. It looked great and was a big hit with my family. here is the link: http://community.cookinglight.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=56481&highlight=April+Fools+cake

On the FTVN on Dweezil and Lisa'a page they have cupcake lasagna. Looks cute and you use won tons for the noodles. Many years ago we had these dinners and the menu was in a foreign language. You picked what you wanted for each course. However, a fork or knife might be listed, and if you picked that, then that is what you got. You might pick spaghetti and meatballs and that is what you get without utensils. Anyways, if you want more info just let me know and I will ask my friend who did this. It was fun. Actually we did this for the high school gymnastics team.

Here's a link to the Family Fun website. It has a lot of April Fool's food ideas:

I have two words for you: Bob Blumer. He's the Surreal Gourmet, and uses faux and really funny presentations for real edible food.

TVFN has one database of his recipes, each show being a menu:

http://www.foodnetwork.com/food/episode_archive/0,1904,FOOD_9992_215,00.html

And TVFN Canada has even more, and many have pictures, but their database is a little harder to maneuver. The link below is for all recipes they have. If you find a recipe you like, there will be a show name at the top of that recipe page that should take you to the list of recipes for that episode:

http://foodtv.ca/recipes/browse/browse_result.idq

One episode, Let Them Meat Cake, featured a meatloaf that looked like a cake and a cake that looked like a hamburger. That episode link is:

I'll second the Blumer recommendation. His new book (I forget the exact title but something about Conversation Starters and Show Stoppers) has fun things like S'more Shooters and Carrot Cake Shots -- yummy, different stuff.

Oh my.. The title of this thread brought back some bad memories for me!:D When I was studying nutrition, I was taking a course where we had to take turns planning menus and running a small restaurant. During one of the cycles we were each assigned a theme. Everyone got easy ones like a picnic theme, gourmet theme etc.. But me? I got the April Fool's theme. I had NO idea whatsoever what to do, and ended up getting really stressed out over it. I finally ended up coming up with a plan about three days before the meal was to be served. I ended up using all mock recipes. I used mock meatballs (which tasted EXACTLY like real meatballs), mock shrimp salad, mock apple pie etc. etc. I don't remember all the recipes now, but it ended up being a huge success and the line was out the door. Everyone raved to the teacher about how great it turned out and I ended up getting an A+!:D :D I still get stressed out thinking back to that though!

Vicky, I saw that episode too! I loved it!
What I was about to suggest...I just made mock mashed potatoes this weekend and fooled DBF, he loved them! Let me know if you need the recipe.
Also, when I was younger we lived in europe and my mom would always take us to the ice cream palor they had there and they would serve us spagetti ice cream. What it was, was Vanilla Ice Cream ran through a ricer (that thing you put potatoes in and squeeze down)as the noodles, and strawberry sauce as the tomatoe sauce and then topped it off w/ shredded coconut as the parmessan cheese!
