View Full Version : Spring Vegetable Lasgna - April 2001 recipe

Hi! I was wondering if anyone could help me with a question on this recipe. It calls for Swiss Chard - which I understand is a bitter tasting green, right? I was wondering if I could substitute spinach instead... I want to try it this weekend so any input would really be appreciated!

A friend of mine made this recipe with spinach instead of the chard and said it was delicious. I think I've seen another similar post where someone substituted spinach for chard, either in this lasagna or another one like it. If you do a search, you might come up with that thread, but either way, I'd say go ahead and go for it.

In most any recipe that is baked and calls for spinach, you can substitute swiss chard or collard greens. Sometimes I even substitute bok choy. They all have a slightly different flavor, but are closely enough related (at least for my taste buds) that they're interchangeable.
Maybe Martha Stewart would disagree, but I say go for it!
BTW...let us know how it turns out. all of the lasagne recipes from April look awesome, but I haven't had the time to try them.

Thanks! I figured it would work and now that I know someone else tried it, I think I'll make it this way also. I couldn't find the swiss chard at the grocery, so I was pretty much stuck with trying the spinach anyway! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

I made it with spinach and it was delicious, very creamy. I think I was also missing one other vegetable and just increased others. My only disappointment was that it takes a fair amount of time for only an 8x8 pan. If I did it again I might make two, one to freeze.
