I had an episode a few weeks ago where the left side of my body went completely numb. I went to the ER, and my neurologist was on call that day and treated me. I got a bad headache later that day, so my doctors didn't know if it was a TIA or a complex migraine. We decided to treat it as a TIA and upped my blood thinner, etc. My neurologist called this week and said that one of my tests came back abnormal so I needed another medicine to prevent strokes. I just got the prescription today and it is:
Folbic Tablets
Folic Acid, Vitamin B6, Vitamin B12
I know that supplements aren't FDA approved, so a presciption is better--but a $20 co-pay for a vitamin??
Is a prescription vitamin stronger and more refined?

Yup, it's a "prescription strength" vitamin...I've seen it prescribed to lower homocysteine levels...feel better soon!
Kinda like you can buy ibuprofen 200mg OTC, but to get 600mgs, you need a script...

Plus with the cost of some vitamins, $20 isn't outrageous...sadly.
Feel better soon.
I am sorry you are going through this!

I think the homocysteine was the level that was low. I couldn't remember it, but that sounds familiar.
So the prescription is just stronger? If I need prescription strength ibuprofen, I just take 3 regular ones. :D
I know vitamins vary widely in quality, so since this is important, I think I'll stick with this one. (it doesn't say how much of each ingredient):D
So, can I take my multivitamin with this? Or will I be overdosing on those three vitamins?

You'd need to know how much is in your Rx one and how much is in your vitamin...
yes, you can OD on B-6 even though it is water soluble.
The nerve damage can be reversed, but it takes a long time, depending on how much you were taking.
