I just came back to the CL site after a few months, I had forgotten about the message boards. I spent a lot of time on a travel site's message board and wow the difference here is incredible!

You all are so helpful and sweet to eachother! It's completely opposite of other bb's I've been to, with the sniping and flaming, and I just wanted to say thanks. Food is really my first passion and it has been a pleasure these past couple of days, reading all the questions and support for eachtother... I plan to stick around.

Cheers!
Dana

Welcome daner! This board is an addiction for some of us. I look forward to checking in on recipe reviews, updates on our expectant moms, and just general knowledge gained.

This is a warm group, always willing to help others out. It's amazing, the responses that requests for help bring out.

Enjoy, and again, welcome! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif

I, too, am a junior member and I cannot begin to tell you how afraid I have been to try new and different things because I didn't know how, and had no one to ask. I feel this is a site where I can learn everything I will ever need to know about cooking, new recipes, and kitchen purchases...it is a wonderful site!
Thanks to you all, who have been so helpful to me! This site is going to help me feel so much more confident...and God bless you, CL, for maintaining this forum for us!
Joyce!

Welcome daner & jmarie... you're both right in that there is a lot of help & support to be found here. I've found there are no stupid questions (except the ones not asked!). Have fun here and enjoy your culinary creations! These are some of the nicest people you''ve never met! (in person, that is)

I heartily agree with the enthusiasm for this board...it is great! I was wondering for us novice BB'ers, could anyone point me in the direction of instructions on how to do all of the funky things you veterans can do on here, like:

1.) Add those message icons--I can't figure it out!

2.) "Bump up" a message...seen others do this, don't have a clue how it's done.

3.) Repeat someone's specific question before you answer.

4.) Put in a link to another site

Okay, and I computer illiterate or what? I hope you aren't all rolling your eyes at my lack of computer savvy. There must be a cheat sheet for this stuff - please share! Thank you,Thank you,Thank you in advance.

DITTO!!! all of the above - I enjoy this BB for many different reasons. The friendliness, the good advice (not only on cooking topics but everything) and comments just about "everyday living and loving". I'm glad to be able to be a part of this!

I can answer some of these questions, but not all. So here goes:

1) Add icons/smilies - In the upper right is FAQ's (freq, asked quesitons) - it has a legend of smilies

2) Whenever you reply to something to a post, it goes to the top of the list of posts. So, bumping up simply means replying to bring it to the top of the list, so more people will see it http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/smile.gif

3) I'm not sure how it's supposed to be done, but I just copy and paste the portion of the text I want to repeat. I think though if you hit the reply with quote button above a persons post, you can quote them that way.

4) Let me try this and see if it works: www.cookinglight.com (http://www.cookinglight.com)
Ok, it worked. Basically, copy the address in the address bar on your task bar (confused yet) into the message. Or if it's a simple web site like above, just go ahead and type it in (including the www.) (http://www.)) It should do it automatically.

Hope this helps.

My question is - there's a peron on the BB who inserts these neat pictures. How do you do it? I need to know!!

Yes, if you click on the icon for reply with quote, it will copy that entire message into your post. However, you can delete the parts you are not replying to save space.

Mamasue is the graphics guru. Here's a thread with a link to where she gets those cool graphics:

JulieM -

If you are adding a graphic, you have to add a backslash after the second . So it would be at the end, instead of . Hope this helps out.

all new members!
In addition to reading everyone's directions on how to do something, you can peek at their post, where it shows the edit/delete icon. That is how I learned to bold and italicize my words. I have also started an animations folder for all of the websites that others have recommended. It is fun to add to your posts!

You know what, I absolutely love this BB. Everyone tries to help and no question goes unanswered. The friendliest group EVER!!!
The thing I like the most, though, is that we still can get recipes that aren't all "light". For me the decadent chocolate desserts and the cheescakes were the greatest. I do use the healthy things too though....sigh.

SoCal,
One word of advice...each time you edit a post be sure to delete the line that says you had already edited that post:

[This message has been edited by SoCal (04-15-2001)].

Delete all that appear in your message because the current one won't show up until you post. That way the rest of us will never know how many times you edited! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/wink.gif
