Good Morning Klatchers & Lurkers!
Today's coffee is whichever beans DH picked last night. :D :D
Well, last night was exciting. Ginger's school was on the local news. There were 3 local stations there, and we recorded 2 of them. Unfortunately you can't see Ginger on the film, but it's still kind of neat. Apparently Jack Hensley's daughter attended Ginger's school. He was the Marietta construction worker who was beheaded in Iraq in September. I didn't know them, but he and his wife were both very involved in the school and it hit the staff very hard when he died. They decided back in September to dedicate their February 1st Grade PTA program to his memory. Hence the local news. The White House even found out, and the Vice President's Office called. They wanted to send someone to the program, rumors are it was the Vice President, but they didn't have enough time to get someone here.
We don't have much going on this weekend. Mariel and I will be going into school and doing our grocery shopping this AM. I guess we'll watch some of the superbowl, but will probably spend more time watching movies & sleeping late. :D Gotta run, I slept late this AM and haven't had a shower yet.
What is everyone else up to?
Leigh
Good morning Leigh!
That's pretty neat about Ginger's school. Did you have to cancel your Bunco party last weekend because of the weather? Jerry flies back from Atlanta this afternoon so I hope your weather is good today!
Not much planned here. We are all battling some viral thing that's going around. The girls are doing better, but now I have it. It's supposed to be almost 50 here this weekend, so hopefully I can get out into the fresh air and feel better. Sunday at church it is Children's Day and they lead the service, so Sara has practice for that tomorrow.
This week we applied to adopt a dog. :) I am supposed to call the center this afternoon to see if they approved us, once they do all the checks with your vet, etc. It is a male basset who was brought in as a stray, but they said all his tests checked out and he is in good health. I met him earlier this week and he's really sweet. Anyway, if they say we can adopt him, we'll set up an appt to go get him. I don't think it would be as early as tomorrow, but probably next week. I can't imagine why they wouldn't allow us to adopt him, because we're good pet owners, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed!
Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Hi Leigh and Sue!
Leigh what exciting events you had! But oh what a shame for that family. I thought about you last week when I heard about that weather. Hope you, Al the girls and your families were safe and warm.
Sue I'm sure you'll be approved especially since you've owned bassets before! They have such sweet and special personalities that obviously you understand!
Well my social life has been put on hold for the last week and next couple. I have been very busy with overnight pet sitting. (mind you I'm not complaining) My bonding and insurance money is due at the end of the month and atleast I know I will have that completely covered! Whew! The dog I'm pet sitting for right now was a last minute add on. Get this the lady arranges for me last Thursday, but because of our schedules we can't meet til Saturday. She shows me around tells me what needs to be done and then says "do you mind if I call your references?" obviously I have no problem or I wouldn't provide them. (I didn't say that) But in the back of mind I'm thinking HELLO you are leaving TOMORROW for a 10 day trip. Exactly who else do you think you're going to get? Her husband was no better! Oh well all of my other clients have been great!
Ok I must go grab some breakfast and start walking the dogs. Have a great weekend everyone!
Hi Peggy! I'm glad that your business is doing so well. Does Otis miss you when you're gone overnight? How is he doing?
Peggy C.
02-04-2005, 06:38 AM
Sue Otis is doing well. ('cept those houndy ears! ) I don't know that he misses me as much as I miss him, but he certainly acts aloof (is that the right spelling) when I'm home. The little creep!;) I haven't seen John in almost a week (because of my schedule) and I'm not as worried about what he thinks as what Otis thinks. That is probably just wrong. LOL!:D

Good morning!
Leigh, that is neat that the school was on the news, though not a terribly happy reason.
Sue, I'm sure you guys will be approved for the dog, I wouldn't be able to function long without my pup!
Peggy, good to see you! Glad you are busy with the business, much better than sitting behind a desk isn't it?
Well superbowl fever is striking a high here. There is coverage all over the news, radio, etc. Everyone is wearing either green or Eagles clothing today, which is rather funny! I've heard stories of people mortgaging their houses to see the game, there are tons of people down there that just went down and they have no tickets and no place to stay. It's funny! I've never lived near a city that was going into the Super Bowl so it's quite the experience.
Not much is going on with us. Tonight I'll go to the gym and convince DH that we need to go out to dinner since I ate popcorn for dinner last night. Tomorrow he's putting in a tile floor at his grandmothers and I'm going shopping! I need new shoes and a few other little things. And Sunday of course is the big day, we have a big party to go to, as you can imagine!

Hi everyone! Don't have long to chat but just wanted to check in!!
Linsley - how did the house showing go last Saturday?? Also would you believe we lived in the burbs for 17 years and we don't have a single Eagles anything!! (aside from a football that cheers EAGLES - eagles when you throw it!!) I'm working 1/2 day at school today and I have to wear a Steelers sweatshirt!!:p
Leigh - wow - small world sometimes huh? How are things shaping up for Ginger's program?
Peggy - You are busy!! Pet sitting sounds really neat!!
Sue - Hope everything goes well to adopt the dog!! The weather is supposed to beautiful!! Hope you guys feel better! My mom is finally back from my grandmother's so maybe I'll be able to come up for a visit!!;)
As I said before I'm working 1/2 day at the elementary school today - I've worked 4 days this week! Whew - I'm not used to it!! It's nice because I've been with kindergarten and special ed - so it's nice mix up!
We have friends coming up tomorrow for a day before the superbowl party - no one can stay for the 6pm game on Sunday b/c of work schedules (everyone is 2-3 hours away) - So we'll have a party tomorrow night instead!!!:D

Charisse, hey any excuse for a party!:D
We haven't heard anything about the showing, so who knows. My agent's an idiot but luckily he's only on retainer until the end of the month!

Good morning!
Feeling a lot happier this weekend, even with only one day off. Things are starting to normalize themselves, I have caught up on sleep, the cold is going away and I got a surprise package with some fun kitchen toys in it:D
Saturday will be the first day in almost three weeks that Rob and I get to spend together, so it will be a quiet, domestic day.
Leigh, I bet it was exciting to see Ginger's School on the news. Too bad it was for such a sad reason. I have been out of the loop for a while- has she started the gifted program yet?
Sue, good luck with the dog adoption. I know you can never replace the pets you have lost, but I hope you find a new one with a great personality !
Linsley, hope you get your dinner out. Popcorn does not sound like enough fuel to have two nights in a row!:p
Hello to Peggy C and Charisse and anyone who is posting as I type.

Hello ladies.
Hi Leigh. :)
Susan - Good luck with the Bassett. I think they are so adorable. We decided that if we ever get one, his name will be Chester. :)
Peggy - Good luck with your business. I can't imagine staying overnight in someone else's house, but it sounds like a great service to provide.
Linsely - My brother and I were raised in NY, but he's been and Eagles fan since as long as I can remember. I'm sure he's a happy camper!
Charisse - Do you sub? As a teacher or an aide? I was planning on subbing until I landed the parttime office job. I work 11:30-3 and it's in the same school as my kids (which happens to be less than a block away), so it's the perfect job for me right now. When I watch a class for a teacher now and then, I begin to think that it's a good thing I didn't sub after all - I don't think I could do it! :D
Speaking of school....can you believe we have a day off today because of fog???? I would be mad (I hate having our summer vacation whittled down like that) except that we are having a big Mardi Gras party here tomorrow so if we had to have a day off, I'm SO glad it was today!!!
So, that's our plans for the weekend - a big party tomorrow. Lots to do yet - cooking and cleaning and decorating. We may go to a Super Bowl party on Sunday, but that's undecided at this point.
Have a great day everyone. :)

Just a quick note before I hop into the shower.
Started at work yesterday, pretty boring day reading documentation. At least they did get my computer hooked up so I could get some real work soon :)
Boys are going to their dad's this weekend. I'm going to have dinner with my parents tonight, mani/pedi/shopping with a friend tomorrow day, Teatro ZinZanni (http://love.zinzanni.org/) Saturday night (I've been wanting to go for 5 years :D ) and then I'm hosting a Super Bowl Open House on Sunday.
Sue: Sure you will get the dog. Hope you feel better soon.

Hello all!
I've been a rotten klatcher the past few months- Fridays have somehow become one of my busier workdays and while I read the klatch thread sometimes, I haven't been able to keep up enough to post much!
Sue, oh, I hope you're able to adopt the basset! When they tell you yes, as I'm sure they will, you will have to post some photos!
How old is he?
Peggy, you sound crazy-busy! I'm pretty sure Gertie would be oh-so-resentful if I stayed out all hours and came home smelling like strange dog- the equivalent of lipstick on the collar! :D
Linsley, we are in the NY-Philadelphia TV markets (we get stations from both areas) so we are drowning in Super Bowl enthusiasm too! It'd be nice for Philadelphia if the Eagles finally won, I'll say that.
Hi Leigh, Charisse, Tyra, and Linda!!
Tonight we're ordering in pizza and cleaning the house, which has gotten into a pretty sad state. (I need to pay a return visit to the Flylady program). Tomorrow one of our friends is coming out for the day just to hang out and catch up, and on Sunday another friend is coming to do some bread-baking. It'll be a nice weekend!

Hi everyone,
Yes, it was a sad reason to have Ginger's school on the news. The daughter cried a little, especially when she was given a check for her trust fund.
Linda,
Ginger hasn't started the Gifted program yet. They are still working on the schedule. They have a lot of new kids in the program and need more teachers.
Peggy,
Good to see you. Hugs to Otis. I'm glad to hear you are busy. LOL! about the client. Al's family is like that and it drives us nuts. We stayed home all weekend so we were plenty warm. :D
Charisse & Alysha,
I've thought about seeing if the school needs someone part-time this fall. Mariel will start school then so I'll be alone during the day.
Sue,
The weather is beautiful today. Things weren't too bad in Marietta last weekend. It was worse to the south & east of us. My hairdresser lives in town and he said the salon closed and they had now power, lots of ice on the roads. We did have bunco, but only 4 people showed. It didn't start to rain until we were going home. Al laughed at me because I drove (6 houses up the street). I gave some neighbors a ride too. Good luck getting the new dog.
I better go see what Mariel is up to. She's upstairs alone and it's very quiet.....that's never a good sign.

Alysha - I'm a substitute aide. I would LOVE to work in the office - your job sounds perfect. Actually what I'm doing right now works really well. Next year will be great b/c Sam starts kindergarten and the school is K-3 so both Jack and Sam will be together (only one trip for us!!) It's nice b/c I can say no if I have things to do. I've gotten so reliable that I'm first on the list for my office person to call :p Leigh - it's great b/c you have off when the kids have off etc... Plus I don't have to worry about picking them up/buses in the afternoon. If you have kids, working in the schools is ideal!!
Stephanie - Your weekend sounds nice and relaxing! What's a flylady program???
Linsley - fingers crossed for you - You know you have either a love/hate relationship with realtors. We had a couple of horrible ones. Do you have something lined up for next month just in case?
Tyra - I am so glad you found work so quickly. First couple of days are always boring!! Are you able to get online like you were at your old job?
Leigh - Any damage done?:D
Linda - so glad to see you are feeling more settled. Have a wonderful Saturday with Rob.:)

Charisse,
:D Just some lipstick, only on her face and it wasn't mine. It was something Grammie gave the girls.
Linsley,
Good luck with selling the house.
Tyra,
I hope your new job isn't so boring today. :D

Hi Everyone -
I am battling a sinus infection today. I started to come down with it on Wednesday, and have been feeling pretty rotten since then. I skipped book club last night, and have been asleep by 9:00 the last 2 nights. I hope it goes away soon! It is really hard to be home with a baby when you're feeling crappy. :(
We have Supper Club tomorrow night. We are doing Indian food. Should be fun, it is only going to be 3 couples, so kind of a small group. I don't know yet what we are going to bring.
I will go back and read the thread, I just had a few minutes to pop in and say hello. :)

Lara, I hope you feel better soon. Those sinus things can really drain you physically, I find.
Charisse, I am sure I missed you already, but have a great day at work.
Stephanie, your weekend sounds wonderfully domestic. I have to admit I prefer the weekends were we stick close to home.
Tyra, hope your new job is going well. I am glad you found something so quickly.
Leigh, too bad Ginger's program is delayed. I hope once it starts, she enjoys herself. School is no fun when you are bored out of your mind because you are ahead of everyone else.

Lara,
I hope you are feeling better soon. IMO sinus infections are the worst.
Tyra,
Get back to work. :D :D
Linda,
Yes, it's frustrating. She had a really bad week in class last week, and her teacher tries to keep her busy but it's hard since she is so far ahead of her classmates.
Stephanie,
You have been missed on the klatch. I will say, you weekend sounds like lots of fun. What kind of bread are you going to make?
Ok, klatchers...we've still got 11 posts to make it to page two. Let's get going. It's Friday, that's no time to be working.

I'll help get it to page 2. I'm bored ... I don't like reading documentation. I want to actually work....(can't believe I'm actually saying that)
just went over all the benefits, etc. Still have questions on my health insurance choices, hopefully my HR rep will get back to me so I can pick a plan.

Tyra- I knew you had a new job but didn't realize you were starting so soon! Yay for you!!
Leigh, we're making a couple of breads. I think we've settled on a Potato-Cheddar-Chive bread, a Maple-Walnut Sourdough, and a Harvest Grains bread. We'll see if we can fit it all in!
Linda, I view the baking and hanging out with friends as blissfully domestic. The cleaning house part- domestic, but not very blissful. ;)
Lara- feel better!
I just signed up for a knife skills class- not until May- but last time I tried to sign up the class was full. Can't wait to learn all the things I'm currently doing wrong...

Tyra,
I agree with you....reading documentation is boring. :D I also think reading professional library literature is boring. Good way to start that afternoon nap though. :D

The Potato-Cheddar-Chive bread sounds yummy. Could you post that?

Stephanie:
I wasn't supposed to start until Monday, but when I spoke with the office on Monday, they asked if I could start earlier. So, I went in for orientation on Tuesday and then started at the client site on Thursday. I figured it was more money than unemployment and since I was just puttering around the house/erranding/etc .... why not get paid? (I also figured I looked like a more dedicated employee :D ;) )

Hi All,
I've skimmed everyone's goings on but it has been crazy for me these days as usual. I've started a 2nd job and had to take 2 tests for certification this week and just finished the last one a few minutes ago. I am glad I took the job for the extra money but I feel like all I do is eat sleep and work. My social life is basically gone and my cat is starting to get upset.
A very good friend of the family (I held him as a newborn) entered the army in January. I haven't really let myself feel the fear of what could happen but I recieved an email from his mother this week. Apparently he is feeling very isolated and rarely gets to even read a newspaper! He has written 22 letters since he left and has only received 4, needless to say, my next thing to do is to write him a long letter. I only share this to remind everyone that these boys/young men are giving their all, no matter where they are and deserve our support, whether or not we support the battles we are currently fighting.
I hope everyone has an enjoyable weekend.

Do you think he would like getting letters from strangers? Or is he just homesick and wants to hear from those he knows and loves. Anyway, we (my family) would be more than happy to send off a letter or two to "keep him company". Let me know.
I sure hope they all come home soon. :(

Alysha and Tyra,
I made it all the way through writing to him without crying and I popped back over here and both of your responses now have me sobbing. Thank you so much for your offer. I am sending his mother an email and will check. The thing is, he and I are 7 years apart age wise but we have a connection that I can't explain, though his mother doesn't know, we've said to each other that if we haven't met the one in 10 years, who knows where we will take our friendship. I let you both know as soon as I hear from his mom. Thank you again!

Robyn: In case his mom wants to know, my sons are 12 1/2 and 15 1/2. I can't promise they would be interested in writing since I haven't asked them...but I think the older would do it if I asked him nicely ;)
