I want to make the Drunken Bean recipe from Moosewood which calls for amber beer. Since I don't know a thing about beers, could someone tell me what amber beer is and some brand names so that I know what to buy.
Thanks

When I make borracho beans I use Dos Equis (it is an amber beer) but I believe any amber would have that on the label though they might be labeled red beer/ale.

I love that recipe and I make it a lot. Most of the times, I use whatever beer I have on hand. Once I even used wine! :eek: I am sure the amber beer gives it a special taste, but I have no complaints about the taste with the other beers... :)

I agree, any beer tastes fine; I've used corona, miller light, and lately a dark beer from the Ukraine that my boss gave to us:D
This recipe is very yummy, and very forgiving ;-}

Thanks for the replys. I have corona in the fridge, so I think I'll make them tonight instead of shopping around for an amber beer.

I have quite a few small cans of green chilies in the house.
I'm not familiar with the flavor of the chipotle adobo sauce -- never tried it before. Do you think the taste of the Moosewood Drunken Beans would still be good if I used green chilies instead of the chipotle adobo sauce? Or should I really pick up the sauce before trying the beans??

IMHO, I think you should find the chipotles in adobo! They are much spicier than the canned poblanos and of course have that smoky flavor that canned green chiles don't have and then there's the tomatoe-y sauce...

Thanks, Sneezles! I'll find the chipotles before I try the beans.
