View Full Version : Thoughts on Last Night's LOST 2/9/05

OK, I found some of last night's episode confusing and some predictable.
Boone falling asleep at his post was fairly predictable but found it odd that Locke and Sayid found it odd he wanted to be on guard duty.
Why not take Charlie along to start with knowing how emotionally involved he was with the whole Claire disapperance anyway and where'd he get that gun?
It's looking like the Korean husband (sorry can't remember his name) is becoming suspicious of his wife...asking what is going on, is the baby all right...

Agreed. I think that they are trying to set Boone up for something, but I am not sure what.

The gun was the one Jack lost when Ethan tackled him. I thought that whole thing was kind of interesting. All Charlie has ever wanted to do was take care of a woman, and he has let them down. He thought he had let Claire down, too, and he wasn't going to let that stand. He's probably right, that Ethan wouldn't have talked, but he would have given them *something* so I was kind of bummed when he was killed.

I totally agree. They've been there for a month, at the least Kim needs to start trying to learn English. They could really use someone like him if only they could communicate with him. I think he is starting to be suspicious of his wife. I also think that the "meaningful glances" between the two of them around the whole "do you think the baby is all right" had some history... maybe he wanted a child and she didn't? Or not with him?

Hmmm....that is a very interesting take on it. I had not even thought about that! I just really, really think that he has to know English, but he is also getting suspicious of his wife. In fact, I would not be surprised if he already knew, before the flight, that she was learning to speak English. He seemed to be a very well-connected man and I bet someone told him something along the way. He just was not sure how or when she was going to leave him, thus making him suspicious now. Or maybe he did know, and he is trying to figure out why she stayed with him!
Another thing that we can add to the predictable side of last night's episode was that Ethan killed a "red-shirt" first. I know the statement is out there that a main character will die before the end of the season, but I bet it will not be until episdoe 23 or 24. So I thought that really did not add much suspense.

This show is going to lose me if they don't start giving some sort of answers soon. Especially after that long hiatus, I expected last night's show to be really good and give us some new information. :(
And I found the way they handled the funeral for Steve/Scott annoying - I'm supposed to believe that in the month they have been on the island, not one person got to know the guy at all? Aren't there only like 40 people on the island? Minor point, but it added to my frustration with the episode.

Weird episode last night.....
OK, so now that Ethan is dead, who will pop up next to menace the group? I really don't think he was in all this alone.
$10 says Kim speaks English too, or he's catching on rapidly.
I think Boone wants to try and prove himself a "man" by taking guard duty. I really wonder about his character...doesn't seem like a principal role, IMHO.
The edge of the seat continues.....

A "red-shirt"? Do we have a Star Trek fan here? DH is one. You never want to be a red shirt; the life expectancy is too short.

I could have written that myself. I think this is turning into a serious Gilligan's Island.
I missed the last 15 minutes or so of the show (fell asleep :o ). Who killed Ethan?

I thought the gun that Jack lost was the one Sawyer used to shoot the marshall but then Sawyer still had a gun...

Nope. Sawyer brought out that gun before they left to get Ethan... it was the 5th gun that allowed Kate to go. When Ethan and Jack were wrestling, Jack lost the gun and they did a close-up on it falling into the grass. That's why I think that Charlie picked it up... he must have been following them to watch over Claire and saw where it fell.

I think Kim knows English too and feels he has to keep it hidden because he has never told his wife. I think he knows his wife speaks English or at least suspects it. To save face he cannot admit it before she does, then it would be ok for him to have kept it secret because she did not tell him either.
I think that it is not Claire the was the one Ethan ultimately wanted I think it is the baby. I still think there is a twist coming up regarding children/babies.
Just my 2cents worth :D

But didn't Jack have a gun he lost when they were first tracking Ethan back when Claire went missing? They fought (Jack and Ethan) and then Ethan stepped on Jack's chest and said, "If you don't stop following me I'm going to kill you." And then he disappeared into the jungle.
I told ya I'm confused! ;) But I see your point about Charlie pciking up the gun Jack lost during last night's struggle with Ethan.

When Kate asked Jack "what does he (Ethan) want with her (Claire)?" I said to DH "Duh...he doesn't want her, he wants the baby!"

Nope, though my dad was one so I've heard the term before, but I picked that up when Lost first was on the air and I visited some fan sites to get the scoop. But it was definitely started with an old Star Trek reference in mind!

They had not found the marshall's breifcase at that time, so no, the only gun they had was the one Sawyer killed the marshall with and he must have still had it at the time Claire originally disappeared since he still had it in his stash until last night. Clear as mud, right? :)
And I totally agree that the baby is the one the "others" want!

I missed an episode way back , so who is Ethan? Where did he come from? He is not a passenger, is he?
Kim is bound to know some English or he could certainly pick up a little.
And about Claire's baby...have they ever said how far along she is? She looks like it could be any minute. I hope they don't have a whole episode of that - I like the old movies best when the doctor says "boil some water" and the next scene shows the mother with a baby wrapped in a blanket and not a hair out of place!

I believe Claire said she was 7 months along when the plane crashed and they've been there for a month.

No, Ethan is not a paasenger although at one point he must have started mingling with the passengers, until someone did a count and realized that there were one too many people on the island. No one knows where he came from or what his situation is (or was) which is why it is so disappointing that he was killed.

I thought he was the French woman's son.

There was speculation of that theory on a previous thread but I don't think it was ever confirmed.

That's never come up on the show, though many have speculated. We don't know how old her child was/is, and so it's certainly possible that he was a teenager when they got to the island and is now in his early 30's. But he could just as easily be one of "the others."

I love reading all ya'lls thoughts on the show. Some of you "see" things that pass right over my head. I go back a watch it again, and say to myself-"oh yeah, now I see what she means".

Just for fun I went to the abc.com Lost message boards.....WOW!!!! We are MILD compared to those folks. Some true speculation going on over there. Some "out there", some interesting. They are all over the place on theories.

Just got around to watching my videotaped copy from last week, and I wanted to add my two cents.
First, did anyone else catch the shout-out to "The Office"? When Charlie first goes to Lucy's house, he asks where her dad is, and she replies that she thinks he's up buying some paper company in Slough. That cracked me up! :D
I'm starting to get more suspicious that the Korean guy knows English. It's just getting kinda fishy, can't put my finger on it but I think there's something more there than he's letting on.
I was bummed that Charlie killed Ethan, but he's right--Ethan may not have talked. And I agree--he wants that baby, not Claire. Did you notice the scratch marks on his face? Looked like fingernail scratches. So Claire would have had to struggle with him to get away? But she can't remember who Ethan is or what he did to her, so that's confusing too.
Can't wait for next week! The blurb in Entertainment Weekly says something very interesting regarding Jack and Sawyer....
