Our Supper Club is having an Oscar theme night. All recipes should be inspired by an Best Movie nominee and we haven't seen any of them! Any suggestions?
Thanks!

I usually do this each year too, but haven't thought about it quite yet.

Anyway, the only thing I can think of off the top of my head is to have a lot of good wines in honor of Sideways !

I'm not a big movie goer so I won't be of much help, but since none of you have seen the movies why not widen your choices? You could do famous culinary films, dishes made famous from film or something like that. That would give you choices from all movies--especially great culinary flicks like Chocolat, Babette's Feast, Like Water for Chocolate, Big Night (my fave), etc. Or you could pick movies with famous food/dinner scenes or types of food: My Big Fat Greek Wedding, When Harry Met Sally, etc.

Other thoughts: Fried Green Tomatos, Diner, Mystic Pizza...

Sideways: anything wine-related, epsecially Pinot Noir (it plays a big part in the movie), and they do go on picnics so maybe something related to that. Or they do have a steak dinner at one point...

Ray: soul food!

Finding Neverland...hmm...maybe tea sandwiches or something Watercress?

Million Dollar Baby: I don't know. What do boxers eat?

The Aviator: peas were one of Howard Hughes' favorite foods. During his later (recluse) years he would use a special fork to sort them by size before he ate.

HTH a bit

But, in honor of Sideways, NO MERLOT!!! LOL

In The Aviator, HH drinks a LOT of milk from glass pint bottles. And I suppose you could make PBJ sandwiches with Peter Pan pnut butter in honor of Finding Neverland ...

So there ya go ... wine and peas, followed by PBJs and milk.

But, since none of you have seen any of the movies, I'm not sure why you want to follow this theme? Seems like it would make sense and be fun if you had seen the movies, but otherwise what's the point?

We are having a big (huge!) Oscar party this year. We don't go with Oscar themed food, so here's what we are having:

Stuffed Mushrooms & other apps
Gourmet pizzas (turkey alfredo, tomato pesto....)
Minestrone
Gourmet cupckes (chocolate with peanut butter filling and cappucino with white chocolate frosting)
Lots of good red wine

My main cocern with the Oscars is that I want to watch them too! So all the food has to be done before the party starts. We do a sort of buffet in the kitchen and people just wander in to get food when they want.

Thank you for all of the suggestions! Everyone else in my supper club has seen the movies, but my husband and I have not. That's why we were looking for help.
I think we are going to pass on the raw eggs though.....
Thanks again!

If you include the animated pictures, Shark Tale gives you a lot of seafood options. Shrek 2 could get a bit weird (if you wanted) and I can't think of anything for The Incedibles right off the bat.

Not helping you specifically, but this article (http://entertaining.about.com/cs/holidays/a/glamoscars.htm) had some interesting recipe ideas. The Asiago Dip on Crostini sounds delicious.

Thanks for that link, Tyra! It has some great ideas for Oscar night foods. Now I just have to decide on a menu...

Million Dollar Baby....what was the pie that Clint Eastwood wanted? Wasn't it a cream pie? That would work. How about leftovers from someone else's supper club plate? (hee hee...a joke. Hilary Swank was taking home food from the restaurant.) Sue
