View Full Version : quick question for chicken-roasting newbie

ok..first time EVER that i'm roasting a chicken. it's a 5.5 lb chicken (making a big one to have leftover meat to freeze). how long does it need to cook?

it's been in 1 1/2 hrs so far.

What temperature are you roasting it at? As I rule, I usually roast my birds for ~23-25 minutes per pound at 325, so a 5.5lb bird should cook for around 2:15. I hope that helps!

What recipe are you making?:)

i didn't do anything exciting..just rubbed with olive oil and ground black pepper. i would've loved to try Jamie Oliver's (see foodtv.com) roast chicken recipe but i just wanted to throw the bird in the oven since it was getting late.
i cooked it at 400 for about 1 hour forty minutes, and i think it was done (juices ran clear).
finally i'm not a roast chicken virgin anymore!
