View Full Version : CL Web Site - Do you read it?

I'm curious about how you all use the CL Web site. It seems to me that if you get the magazine, there's no point to the web site because all the articles are from the mag. Am I missing something? I know there is a Recipe Finder that many like, but how else do you use it?

I do use the recipe finder, but other than that I jump right on into the BB! I usually am so exciting to check out the lastest topics. I agree with you, if you read the magazine you don't need to read the web page.
Oh, I always do the new reader poll on the page to get into the BB.

Mostly I use the Recipe Finder and this BB since the featured articles seem to be from the magazine I already read.

I also mostly go directly to the BB board. I enjoy reading and sometimes posting responses. I too have found that most of the articles and such they have on the website are duplicates of what's in the current magazine. It would be nice if they had some different things.

I check the BBs (I'm part of a very active supper club), but also use the recipe feature.

I just bought MasterCook, and find that there's good information on these boards about how to 'tweak' it.

I do get tired of the pop-up ads, however! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/rolleyes.gif

I use the articles to copy recipes into MasterCook, thus saving me the time of typing in those I want to put into my favorites cookbook. Usually throughout the month, I will get most of the recipes that I have tried and want to save. In addition, I will copy those I want to try but did not get time for before the next magazine arrives. Those I save in a Try Later cookbook. Then, at a later date, if I am looking for a particular type of recipe, I can run a search of the Try Later cookbook and I don't have to search back through old issues. I really like having the current magazines articles on line so that I can "harvest" the recipes into MasterCook.

FYI-
Regarding beejayw1's note on pop up ads.
You can avoid them by downloading Webwasher and turning it on while you're on the web. It's free.
I got it because I didn't want sites putting cookies on my computer (call me paranoid). The ability to filter pop up ads (as well as other ads that you can specify) was a definite plus. It also seems that sites are downloading faster.
Here's the link if you're interested: http://www.webwasher.com/

Just a note - I used Webwasher too and because it didn't allow cookies, I couldn't save stuff to my Cookbook and Recipe Box, it wouldn't remember my usernames and passwords (which I like, at home) and some other things too which I can't remember now. It WILL definitely help you if you are converned with privacy though. It's worth a look if you are!

I use the Recipe Finder quite often, but mostly it's the BB! I agree that if you read the mag from cover to cover, the website is kind of overkill! http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif

comabri - Thanks for the idea of searching for "in season," and why I never thought of doing this myself is a puzzlement to me. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/confused.gif Now I'm playing a lot more with different parts of the site. Sometimes we get into ruts....

Cheers and thanks again,
Phoebe
