You can track athletes online at www.bostonmarathon.org. (http://www.bostonmarathon.org.) I'm tracking some friends and wanted to track Emilycat. There are 21 Emily's participating.
Anyone know our Emilycat's last name?

She's passed the 10K mark at 51:41. That's an 8:20 pace with a projected finish of 3:38.20. Go Emily!

SusanT: Ok, I'll bite -- what's a "negative split"? http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/confused.gif

You're a MACHINE!!! to do that pace at a race that is so packed, it's like running an obstacle course.....
Go Emily!

A negative split is when you run a mile, swim a lap, etc. faster than the mile, lap, etc previous to it. It's something very hard to achieve as anyone who has done a race can attest to. It takes a good deal of experience and conditioning to do especially in a marathon. Most inexperienced runners tend to go out too fast and end slow.
In short, anyone who can run negative splits in a marathon is a heck of a runner!

Emily's tracking to beat a male friend of ours by 5 minutes (of course, he's 40 and she's 22 so the comparison may not be quite fair)

WOW!!! NOW THAT'S IMPRESSIVE!!!! WHAT A FANTASTIC ACCOMPLISHMENT!!! YOU'RE AWESOME EM!!
(And yes, I SHOUTED on pupose!!) http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif
Oh, and I felt kind of silly today, my husband came home for lunch and I had the race on TV (not something I would normally watch), and he looked at me like, "Huh?? What've you got this on for?". I said, "A friend of mine is running in this race", and since he knows pretty much all my friends, he was like, "Really? Who?" And I had to reply, "well, it's this girl Emily, I've never met her, really, but she's from the BB", and he just kind of shrugged and said, "Oh", and walked off, but it made me think about how much I consider you all friends here, and how we all are so interested in each other's lives, that's it's like we really do know each other for real! I enjoy thinking about all of you, and getting excited for your activities, and wondering how the meals you say your making are going, etc....it adds a lot to my life. Thanks Em (and everyone else!)

Oh man. I'm really happy for Emily. I'm a beginning runner and I don't know if I'll ever be good enough for a marathon. In case some of you didn't know, not everyone who wants to run Boston gets to do it. You have to be able to prove that you have finished well in several marathons already and you have to show that you can finish the marathon within a certain amount of time. It's a great accomplishment.
Just as a point of reference, It takes me about 13 minutes to run a mile. To run 26.2 miles at that pace (not bloody likely!) would take me almost SIX hours.

Wow -- I am so impressed and flattered that you guys followed my progress! Really, I'm so touched that everyone was so interested.
(However, in the true manner of a nit-picky runner, I must clarify that my real "chip" (using the ChampionChip) time was 3:30:11 -- the race start was staggered, so I didn't start until 4 minutes after the official start. http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/tongue.gif )I know, I'm a brat, but since pride was the only thing that got me through the last 8 miles, I feel a need to keep it going http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/wink.gif
Boston was definitely an experience, but I went out way too fast for the first 12 miles or so, and my legs were screaming after that -- I was not especially fond of the 12:00 start, and I didn't taper especially well in the last two weeks. But my time was only 5 minutes off my PR (personal record), so yippee! And I am so proud of this accomplishment (I made sure to carry my Boston Marathon bag just so in the Atlanta airport so everyone could read it http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/wink.gif ); now I just have to pick the next race!
Now if only I didn't have to go to work tomorrow....
Oh, and I'm fairly certain I will be making the white chocolate raspberry cheesecake shortly http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/biggrin.gif

As a non-runner myself, no... let me take that back, I do ocassionally run up the stairs http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/tongue.gif, I am totally in awe of you. Congratulations on a fantastic accomplishment! You've got to post a pic of yourself someplace so we can all watch for you in your next feature!
Great Job,

Experienced marathon runners tend to run negative splits in races so they do tend to get a little faster as they go along in the race.

I was there, Emily! I wish I would have known your number...but we had so much fun!!! It was a great day for running...cool, but a bit too windy perhaps. I thought of you all day and wished I was at the finish line to hug you for all the BB members.
So will you be coming back next year?!!
