Have you seen one?

Comcast.net has a series of articles on them, today and it got me to thinking about an experience I had in 1972.

I have seen one. I was driving home late one night and it appeared in front of me. It was cylinder shaped and had lights flashing at light speed.

I followed it into town when it made an abrupt turn to the right. I could have continued following it, I was so tempted, but I became afraid..the road led out into the country and I was petrified. My adrenalin was pumped and my heart was beating out of my chest.

At that point I became so frightened that I broke the speed limit getting home and ran into the house, slamming the door behind me.

I called my parents who laughed when I told them and told me it was my imagination. I didn't get a wink of sleep for two nights. I was at least vindicated when I opened the newspaper, the next day, and saw that the Sheriff's Department had also chased it.

I don't talk about it much because people roll their eyes like I am crazy, but once you have seen one, you know they are out there. It was so real.

What are your thoughts...do you have any experience...you or someone you know?

I believe people actually see lights or whatever they see (I don't think they're imagining it), but I absolutely do not believe they are beings from another planet. First, if that were true, there'd really be some hard evidence considering there are over 4 billion people on this planet. Someone SOMEWHERE would have something more than just some fuzzy photos of some unknown object in the sky

I also think that if these really were beings from another planet, they wouldn't just fly around in the sky and then quickly fly away, making no contact whatsoever. They'd LAND and get out (just like we would if we went to another planet). The fact that there is no hard evidence of that happening anywhere at anytime makes me think these lights in the sky must be attributed to something(s) else.

I know many people do believe in life from other planets coming here, and that's fine with me. It just logically doesn't make sense to me, and as Judge Judy says, "If it's not logical, it probably isn't true"! :D

I don't disbelieve the phenomenon, but I think that calling them "UFOs" is just a way of fitting them into current folklore. A few hundred years ago, they'd have been called "fairies" or "corpse candles" or the like.

Either way, I should say they were a purely terrestrial phenomenon, whether scientifically explicable or, possibly, what would be called "supernatural".

This reminds me of a story my husband once told me about an acquaintance of his who, drunk as a skunk one night, pulled in for last call to what he thought was a bar - turned out he'd pulled in behind a police cruiser. That's when he knew he had to get to AA. Fess up Joyce, how much had you had that night? :D ;)

Yes, I believe. You can't tell me in this big 'ol universe that we are the only ones.

Peter Jennings had a program last Thursday regarding UFO's. It was great. Well reported, didn't try to prove or disprove anything just compiled and reported. (The reports from the abducted were painful to watch because I don't believe that but still presented well.)

Anyway, I think it's a great topic.

Ah, but how do you know they haven't made contact with you? :p :p Maybe they do every day and you just don't realize it.;)

It must be his thing that was on the other night(Peter Jennings) that I must be listening to, on Comcast, right now.

It just got me to thinking about what I saw that night. And no, I wasn't drinking :D ...I had worked until 9:00 PM and was on my way home. It took about 45 minutes for me to get home, so it was almost 10:00 PM when I saw it.

It was close to the earth, I mean right overhead and it was chilling.

But you know, I guess that is why most people don't tell, because folks just don't believe and I guess people don't want others thinking of them as crazy. But seeing is believing. And it is bothersome when people laugh at you, when you know you saw something....

Yep, been there. I also had a witness with me. My Mom and I were together in the car when we had our experience. This was in the mid-60's and I was a senior in high school. We weren't the only ones-people were pulling over to the side of the road to gape.

I think that, like elephants, UFO's will go wherever they want and they will do whatever they please. I believe you, Joyce! I have never seen one myself, but there HAS to be life on other planets.

Why would they have to land or make contact? I am not very well versed in military stuff, but don't spy planes just fly over and take pictures and analyze air and such? Or satellites...or many other things we don't know about.

I have not experienced this myself or seen anything of the like, however, Joyce, there are many people in NJ who have seen what you have seen. I was reading about it not long ago and they described the same thing- lights traveling very quickly along the road. Kind of eerie. I honestly don't know what to make of it.

I did read once that we were extremely egotistical to think that we're the only ones in this entire universe. But that always leads me to that other freaky question- exacly where are we? Just floating around somewhere, but where is that somewhere? Contained in something else? Part of something else or just this vast expanse that's just there? Makes my head hurt to think about it.

Do I believe in life on other planets?
Absolutely. I think the universe is far too vast to believe we’re the only ones.

Do I believe they come to our planet?
I don’t know. I also saw the Peter Jennings special and thought it was interesting how they said that the other galaxies are so far away, that even if other beings found a way to travel at the speed of light, it would take them thousands of years to get here unless they were able to come through a portal or something. That’s a little hard for me to wrap my mind around, but that doesn’t mean it’s impossible.

My dad swears he saw a UFO when he went out to milk the cows once (this was a few years back :p ). He says it came to an immediate and abrupt stop in the sky and changed direction. My dad is the last person in the world you’d ever imagine to admit having seen a UFO, so it does make me wonder.

I don’t mean to get too far off topic, but I was just curious…..if you believe in life on other planets, is it safe to assume we have the same God? And if so, (and if you’re Christian) do you believe Jesus is also their savior? Do you think he revealed himself to them as well, or are they not saved?

Again, I was just wondering what others’ thought process was in this area!

Is it safe to assume we have the same God?
I believe there is only one God
And if so, (and if you’re Christian) do you believe Jesus is also their Savior?
I can't see why He wouldn't have sent His Son to be their Savior.
Do you think he revealed himself to them as well, or are they not saved?
If God sent His Son....then there were some who accepted and then some who didn't...and could God be God without revealing Himself?

I think all God expects of us is that we be concerned with the world in which we live. He can take care of the rest of the universe. I feel sure that He doesn't expect us to take care of something for which we know little to nothing about...but this is just my opinion..someone else may have something else to say. :)

I believe people see things they can't identify.

I believe there is life on other planets, some of which may be intelligent.

I don't believe any external intelligence has come to earth.

Off on the tangent, now...

I believe in God.

I believe that God is good and prefers order over chaos.

I am not sure how much interaction god has in day-to-day affairs.

I believe that humility before God is important for humans.

Believing in life on other planets and believing in UFO's are two different subjects (as Blissful_in_TX and Escher pointed out). I believe in life on other planets as a statistical probability. I have no idea what form that like may take, or even if it is necessarily carbon based. But I do see certain logistical difficulties with those life forms visiting us unless they have mastered some very advanced physics :D.

You assumed that what you saw, and I don't doubt you and others saw something (I think there are too many anectdotal accounts to ignore), was extraterrestrial. The military has all kinds of black programs that could be developing just about any kind of device. I'm not convinced the little green men are here and quite frankly I'd rather they stay home. :D I've got enough to worry about with the life forms that are already here.

Gee, Linda. Talking about taking phrases out of context. I never said I followed it. It was in my path, I was headed home. It was moving slowly in front of me then then took a sharp turn to the right. When I first saw it, I was startled, it took me a couple of minutes for my mind to go into gear because I couldn't believe what I was seeing. When it turned right, there was a road that I could have taken to follow it, but I was too frightened by that time, because the road went out into country, where there weren't many homes. I gunned the car and headed home, because I was frightened.

And strange as it seems, I have never considered that there were little green men inside of it. It was scary and I wanted out of there and that is all I thought about, getting out of there.

If there are ET's running around, I have no idea what color they might be...but I have a feeling that if they are here, that they aren't green. I just think green would stick out a little too much, you know? Like a sore thumb.

You've been watching too many movies:D

Actually, you did say you followed it.

jmarie

Well, since we are mincing words here, Yes, I followed it, but it wasn't a choice to go in the direction it was going, towards home, my regular route.

I didn't say...Gee, there is a UFO, I am going to follow it. I didn't make a conscious effort to follow it.

At first, I followed it because I didn't realize what I was seeing. I could have run off the road and ran along the ditch, but would have still been going in the same direction. I could have turned the car around and gone in the opposite direction, but by the time my thought processes took over, it was going right. It's kind of like something dawns on you gradually.

When it turned, I stayed straight. I do not even realize how long it was over me, because I wasn't paying attention until I noticed it.

But this isn't about any curiosity on your part....we all three know this....
Look girls, it would be nice to be able to trip me up...but since I saw it and know what I saw....please pass the PM's, they are delicious tonight, don't you think???.:D I would bet a lot of the quarrels we encounter can be traced to someone who has hate in their heart.

Really? I guess I'm seeing things too.

Well, Kind of. I guess the word I should have used was I approached...as I approached and then kept going it turned into a following of sorts.

So, in a way, you are wrong...but in a way you were correct in that I said I followed...

Whatever it was, it was there, I approached and then followed up the road...but, Linda, I am wondering why are these extreme specifics so important to you?

I did approach it, followed it a short bit and then it went in a direction that I chose not to go.

Doesn't seem like a gray area to me Joyce. Extreme specifics? YOU posted that you had this 'chilling' experience, YOU posted that you followed what you thought was a vehicle of extraterrestrial origin (but only because it was on your way home). As a result of YOUR posts I was prompted to wonder what would motivate you to do something like that. Were the aliens inside the ship using mind control and you had no will to resist? :D

I think she's referring to a CSI episode where there was a convention of people who enjoyed dressing up in animal costumes (think giant Easter bunny) just a little too much.

We have a winner! Yes... that was my very first CSI I watched, and, well, something that weird had to be watched again (I'm now a CSI junkie)

And now "scriff" has been (dubiously) added to my household lexicon.

On the other MB I frequent, I'm pretty sure there is a resident "Furry"... he/she _always_ makes animal references....
