In trying to determine how much of a 16 ounce frozen "loose" chopped spinach bag to use when a recipe calls for a 10-ounce box, I came across this website. Thought it might be helpful for some. I'm still not sure I have the answer to my question, but it helped:

Use a little more than half the bag, Jen - if you want (or need) to be more accurate and don't have scales to weigh out the 10 oz. you need, then divide the package in 2 equal piles, 8 oz. each, and use one plus a quarter of the other. Or you could divide the 16 oz. pkg in 8 equal piles and use 5 of them. Or go out and buy a 10 oz. pkg.;)

or, you could divide the package into 3 equal piles of 5.33 oz. and put two of them together, then take a pinch out.:D
i frequently use the entire bag, since i love spinach.

LOL! I guess I must sound really anal but I don't have the desire to be that accurate. I never actually thought about weighing it because even though the box says it is 10 ounces, I feel like because it is in block form, it would weigh more than 10 ounces of the loose stuff. I'm sure I am overthinking this way too much (my speciality:rolleyes: ). Since we're on the topic - say a recipe calls for 2 cups of fresh spinach - would that be like 2 ounces of frozen? It seems like the fresh to frozen is pretty much a 1:1 ratio, but I'm not certain.
Good lord, who knew that I would become so counfounded by spinach!:o

hey, i'm with you all the way, overthinking is one of my strong suits. since you raise the question, and having thought it over, i think that a 16-oz bag of frozen spinach must be equivalent to a pound of fresh spinach. but i can't wrap my brain around the cup equivalencies, since the fresh is all loose and the frozen is all bunched up.

Thanks, Aubergine. Ugh - nothing like being quoted when you misspelled a word. I really do know how to spell confounded, I promise!
