Since I travel quite often for work, my friend sent me this site to help me find healthy restaurants in different locations. You just enter the zip code, and number of miles, and you get a list of healthy restaurants in the area.

I typed in my own zip code, and selected 1 mile, and got nothing. But, I then selected 30 miles, and got quite a few in the Seattle area. So it may just focus on larger cities. Still, it could be useful.

Thanks for the link... I came up with 2 restaurants. One at the Culinary Institute of America and another which boasts Organic and Vegetarian specialties. I've never heard of the latter, so I will definitely check into it! Unfortunately, as you said, I think it does focus on larger cities- I'm 60+ miles from Albany and NYC and the radius only goes up to 30 miles. Oh well. I'll try the one I found and go from there.

Thanks, kentgirl!
I found six restaurants in my area. I'll have to use this when I travel.

this is great kentgirl! I travel for work quite a bit, too. I just found several for San Jose, Davis, and Oakland, CA where I'm headed next week. Thank you! Julie

I'm sure this is a great site, but it came up with "No results found" in Los Angeles. How could that possibly be???

None for Western NY or for Charleston, SC, where I'm planning a vacation... it would be nice if they'd give you an option where you could submit your favorite healthy restaurants as we have some good ones here. Might be nice if you travel to big cities, though.

AndreaU, we must live in the same area, since I heard you mention the CIA. I've never been to the Brickhouse, the other restaurant that was mentioned, but our neighbor has been pestering everyone to go since her cousin works there. I think they also have live jazz on the weekends! There's also a good restaurant in Beacon called The Vegetable Garden which serves vegetarian, vegan, organic, etc., meals (they do serve meat as well).

If you're having trouble with results by putting in the name of a city, you might try putting in a zip code instead. I'm so excited because I put in my zip code and I got 27 different choices (granted I live in Chicago so the big city bias benefits me). Some of them were repeats (chains at different locations) but a lot were fairly near by and yet I'd never heard of them. Very exciting. Thanks for the tip!

Just wanted to report a great success using this site! I'm in Davis, CA on business and I found the Cafe California using the locator: dinner last night was a bowl of Sweet Potato and Leek Soup and a Spinach Salad with Grilled Lambs, New Potatoes, Asparagus and Feta, with a Balsamic Vinaigrette

Dessert was a stop at Ben and Jerry's. I found this on my own http://www.cookinglight.com/bbs/wink.gif

YUM

Well, according to this website, there are no healthy restaurants in Dayton OH (1 million in metro area) or Columbus OH (even bigger). I think the website is definitely limited to certain areas of the country right now. Kendra

Does anyone know how the restaurants on the list are chosen? I looked for my area (SF Bay Area) and there were plenty. Some of them I know are healthy, but it seemed to list several Thai restaurants. I don't think by definition Thai food is healthy, because if they use a lot oil, coconut milk, or peanut sauce, it can be pretty high fat. I wonder if these Thai restaurants are healthier than others for some reason. I couldn't find a link on the website that explained it.
