I did a search and didn't see a thread along these lines so I hope this isn't redundant....

DH and I are expecting a baby in June and are thinking about a video camera to capture the excitement (not of delivery but of life with baby :o )

We are thinking about something digital so we could burn DVDs. Nothing crazy fancy - just the usual shooting of first steps and other things moms and dads find exciting! I'm personally not into bells and whistles but will take suggestions. To give you an idea, I paid ~$250 for my digital camera and am happy with it. I know we won't get a video camera for that much but I'm not into spending a TON of money...

Help me get started. What do you have? What did you pay (if you don't mind the question) and how do you like it?

Thanks!

I just bought a Sony Handycam Digital Video Camera Recorder (DVD). I am not very brilliant when it comes to technical camera stuff, but this camera is really nice. You record onto the DVD and then you push a few buttons to finalize the DVD and take it out and watch it on TV or your little DVD player. It is really easy to use.

I also second the Sony Handycam, though mine is a super 8, not the dvd. I know I need some sort of cable and then I will be able to burn cd's with it, but haven't gotten around to it. It's extremely easy to use, was rated a best buy by consumer reports and I think we paid around $300- $350 for it two years ago. My brother also has the same one (he has a new baby too!) and he loves it as well.
